I've seen irreligious people pick up superstitions, mainly from their parents. They can become just as ingrained, to the point of bizarre rituals which they dare not avoid. Some of the same kind of mental trappings and flawed logic keep them in place.

IDK if this counts..but I was raised with -alot- of religions in a small space....and plenty of superstition. None of them could assert themselves in balance.
My mother, bless her heart, lol....is still a pseudo wiccan. My father was a methodist. My grandmother is a catholic. My grandfather a southern baptist. My aunt an evangelical.
None of that ever meshed with me..but I still won't talk when I'm running trotlines. In case the fish speak (bad)english.
