Consciousness DOES NOT NEED a body-brain to be active and this has already been proved by thousand of NDEs experiences.

You are the personification of gullible.

It's not that simple. I think, he simply has the balls of steel and finite life isn't enough for his strong ambitions.

It reads to me more like he's just terrified that he won't exist forever and can't face that idea so he'll grasp onto any straw he can.

Rik, when you're asleep for 8 hours and you awaken with the memory of several dreams, can do determine at what time during your 8 hour sleep that you had those dreams ?

Did you have a dream at midnight ?
Or 2 am or 3 am ?

Or is it the one that woke you up that you're fairly certain you just experienced at 6 am ?

With NDE's you have people that recount an experience that happened in their brain. It's hard to say if that experience happened as their brain was dying or perhaps it happened as their brain was being saved and they were regaining consciousness.

We don't have any accounts from people who have remained dead. All the accounts are from people who lived. A dead man tells no tales.

FYI, you can be having literally this very exchange with Rik three years from now. He’s a True Believer, who will never concede a necessary brain-consciousness connection. It’s just a question of how much obstinacy, wrong-headedness, taunting at the hands of an idiot, and the number of cloying fucking emojis you are willing to endure.

You’ve been warned.

RE: Question about permanent death
Hmmm. This is a subject that has been ebbing on my mind for a few days lately. I hate thinking about the finality of death--I hate thinking of well, not thinking! Not breathing! Not feeling! Not...being! But then I remember what it was like for the billions of years before I was born--that wasn't so bad. I've passed out a few times--death is more final, obviously, but I don't recall those experiences being unpleasant, even though in one instance I was convinced I was dying (yay, anxiety). With any luck, my death will just be me passing out and not waking up.

It just sucks. It sucks majorly. To quote a song from FF14 (yes I'm a dweeb but this line is still pretty profound), "Tell us why, given life, we are meant to die, helpless in our cries?"

It sucks that we're smart enough to realize our mortality and just what that means. I get why some people believe in an afterlife. It's comforting.

But me? Nah. As much as I would like to continue existing, I also don't think that humans are made for eternity, and the reality is...is death is final. We are our brains--once the brain is toast so are YOU. There is NO evidence to suggest otherwise.

I'm young and still have much to live for, but I can see myself getting tired as I get older. I can see how oblivion/eternal rest CAN be comforting, it's just still a little scary for me. And, of course, it sucks that I won't get to see how the human story unfolds. That said, I'm thankful I get to play at least a small part in it.

Here’s a positive for you guys: if the finality of death feels like a negative, that means you’re enjoying your lives! I wish I could say the same; instead I am looking forward to blessed release.

Uh... you DO know that all of those NDE experiences involved a body, don't you?

Yup. You will not get anywhere. You won’t even make any mild progress towards some reasonable middle ground. You’re welcome to try, of course! You will just be insulted and have assertions and bad analogies thrown at you for as long as you persist.
