We were so poor, we had to wait a year to buy the iphoneX at a reduced price!
We were so poor, our new car didn't even have automatic radar cruise control! How embarass!

We were so poor, my 6th birthday party was delayed 20 minutes when one of our polo ponies pulled a tendon trampling a servant to death. Poor pony.

We were so poor that we had to pull up the rug to see the floor show.

All kidding aside, I went to an expensive private college in the early/mid 1990s as a "non-traditional age student." Translation: old. It was there where I saw my first real cell phone being used by one of the country club belles there taking a class because she was bored. And then I sat behind her before a class where she and her friend were talking about their cars. The air conditioner in her friend's Mercedes had stopped working after having the car (new) for less than two years. So her husband was going to have to get her a new car.
Where are we going and why am I in this hand basket?

One of the flyscreens in my tree cubby house had a hole in it and the carpet and lounge chairs were second hand.
It took three minutes to reach the top because the elevator was so slow.
Our pool was so small that it only took two minutes to get from one side to the other before I had to turn my Ben Lexen quarter scale 12 metre yacht around.
Because my school was too stingy to fork out for a helicopter pad, I had to catch a limo from the airport.
I even had to wear a uniform that was exactly the same as the commoner's boorish children, despite Mummy writing several letters to the school.

We were so poor that if someone was gay we all knew it and saw it since we couldn't afford a closet where a gay person could hide in.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

We fired the nanny when she couldn't figure out how to wipe me correctly.
