Military people, fall in!

RE: Military people, fall in!
I was a navy brat.  Can't say I cared for it all that much.

More to the point, the reason I'm not ex-military is that my birthday lottery number during the 1974 draft was 316.

US Navy, '72 - '76. Three ships and some shore duty, none of note. Maybe got 90 days out to sea. Joined the navy to see the world, never left the continental US. Huh

My dad was in the navy back in the 50s.  He made it to an island but the only boat he every went out on were grandpa's deep sea fishing boats.  He was a Seabee who helped build the base on the Outer Banks of NC that was later decommissioned.  But his time in service did pay the bulk of his cost of going to vet school.

US Army and 1987-1993. I repaired anti-tank missile systems and eventually became our detachment's NBC noncom at E-5. I got busted back to E-4 near the end of my enlistment. My service was largely unremarkable.

Indeed. I calculated once that I used about $14k in VA college benefits. Back in '77-'83 that wasn't a bad deal. Of course, I still had to work, but it helped.

I was in Vietnam for 2½ years. I served in the infantry and later as a machinist doing automotive work and repairing Cobra Gunships.

Does working for the Navy but not being in the Navy count? (I've also worked for the Royal Fleet Auxiliary)

You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.
