More to the point, the reason I'm not ex-military is that my birthday lottery number during the 1974 draft was 316.
In 1969 mine was 276.  Panic

Wait, I was assuming it would be the year I turned 21. So I guess it would have been in 1971. Do you remember which birthday it was based on?

My only military experience was getting punched in the mouth by a BA corporal.

The only regret I have in being a hippy and not joining the Navy was my friend Eldon. He joined in '77 when we graduated high school. He came home on shore leave and I asked  what he did. He said "I am on LBFM patrol." ( Little Brown Fucking Machines). He had polaroids to prove it.

Infantry, 01-07, HOOAH.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Fort Gordon for AIT? I passed through there in '88. Commanding officer wanted to send me to South Korea, fought like hell for Germany and got it. Two weeks after I got there, they shut down my MOS (39D) and I was once again threatened with South Korea but was able to opt out. All the way out.

Were you embedded with MAC/V SOG?  Huh
Maybe. I had a MACV ration card. I was in the 101st Airborne in I Corps. My last tour was in the 5th Armored Cavalry, Bien Hoa.
