Roy Clark Dead At 85

RE: Roy Clark Dead At 85
If it had strings, Roy could play the hell out of it. He was an incredibly talented musician -- so much so that I always forgave him for Hee Haw.

Too right.  He's up and down the neck of that thing hitting notes that most people don't even know are on there.

Yeah, his performances of "Malaguena" are (or should be) legendary. I heard a version of "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" with Clark on banjo on my way to work this morning, and just grinned throughout it. He took an already fast song and cranked the tempo to speed metal territory.

I suppose it has something to do with his being known primarily as a country music artist, but I'm a bit baffled why you almost never hear aspiring guitarists mention him as an influence or as someone they want to sound like. He was every bit Clapton's, Beck's, Page's, etc. equal.

Me too. I went through a period when I was convinced I would die young. Hee Haw was a contributing factor.

I am unaware of any stringed instrument Roy couldn't play. I saw him play the hell out of a Koto once. He played Riders in the Sky with Glen Campbell once and I'll never forget it.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.
