Do u want there to be a God? Any God?

RE: Do u want there to be a God? Any God?
Omnibenevolent God- it would be great if such a god existed. Too bad one doesn't. But I wish such a god did exist.

Malevolent God- quite possibly may exist. But we are the worse for it. I would rather that no god existed than this type.

***

My political views are ones I've developed myself-- I call myself a Thoreauvian Marxist. No option for that on your poll. What a shame.

The concept of an omnibenevolent deity is distasteful to me. What is the point of life other than learning through experience, and what is there to learn without some kind of conflict?

As a theist, you must be familiar with the concept of theodicy. An omnibenevolent god may create a world with evil in it for various reasons. Perhaps God values "moral grit." Because integrity (or "grit") is only teachable experientially, this explains why an omnibenevolent god might create evil in the world.

On a side note, I find the theodicy of soulmaking compelling, which is why I never argue the problem of evil with theists. (Unless they posit the design argument, and found their claim on all the "good" that is intelligible in the universe. Otherwise, I think the "problem of evil" argument is no good.)

I have gotten along quite well for the last 36 years without dependence on any god(s). I think I can get along for the decade or so of life I have remaining without one. I have no need for an imaginary friend.

Your poll is too simplistic. There should be a few more categories.

People need to check the fine print when they tick the "eternal life" box.
You might live forever the way you died ... senile and with undies permanently full of poop ... Good luck!
No God, No fear.

How much legalese is needed to detail the conditions of an eternal existence? Is it finite?

End up like Tithonus, shriveled into the husk of a cricket, driven mad..begging for a death that can never come.
