RE: How to hide going to therapy?
Lead everyone to believe your are splitting your time between a bar and a crack den,.......

When they find out you' re actually in therapy, they' ll be relieved as hell..

They made some mistakes in the past which really hurt me, even though they didn't intended to. They have good intentions and would try to fix the problem, but I don't trust them to do a good job.

Then don't. They don't need to know why and you don't have to tell, at least not at this time.

What happens in therapy is deeply personal and that boundary should respected. I was in a similar situation as the OP with my parents when I was young. I'm 51 and still have trust issues with my mother and I never did develop much of an adult relationship with my father, who has passed. They also had good intentions, at least to start, but it became ambivalence.

Anyhow, getting with a good therapist is a necessary and excellent step towards sorting whatever the emotional challenges you are facing are. I did not have that insight or desire when I was young and I wish I had.

I sincerely hope you feel better, and if you never need an ear, my PM inbox is open.

If the school work excuse isn't practical for you, your best bet might be to feign an illness. But be careful - don't make it something so trivial that they'll want to come take care of you, but it has to be serious enough that they'll stay away.  So...leprosy.

But seriously, good on you for going the therapy route.  Helped me a ton when I was younger.  Best of luck.

Just go. Honesty is the best policy. I have struggled for years with Bipolar and Chronic Depression. You can just say you have a Dr. appointment. No need for details. Parents should always be there for their children, no matter what!

If I tell them I need to go to a Dr. appointment they would surely wanna know details. Not to mention that dad is hypochondriac and pretty stressed when it comes to me as well. I could lie that I have school work. Thank you for your answer either way and hope your doing good emotionally.
