RE: Jesus’ Failed Prophecy About His Return
You never noticed that jesus hadn't made it back round?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Well in Christianity in Revelations a bunch of stuff is supposed to happen first, and I guess I never noticed how in the Gospels they seemed to be anticipating it happening during their lifetime! yeah, I really didn't notice and I didn't notice Jesus saying

"For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and will then repay every man according to his deeds. Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.“

soo........."Truly" that's a lie..........

Coincidentally, actually reading the bible is ultimately what ended my interest in religion in general and Abrahamaic religions specifically.

one of the things that trips me up the most is that Jesus did fulfill a lot of old testament Prophecies. other than that, I wouldn't have as much of a hard time leaving my beliefs completely behind

The mythology of antiquity is only "interesting" when sane and objective people accept that that was then and this is now, and people didn't know any better back then selling or buying such absurd claims.

I love the artwork and mythology of the ancient Egyptians, but I most certainly don't believe in Ra, Osiris, Horus or Isis.

I think what may actually be tripping you up the most is that you've been convinced that Jesus fulfilled any prophecies whatsoever.  Because...you know...he didn't.

When the later stories were written by people who knew the earlier stories and had a vested interest in making their position sound good it isn't surprising that they used elements of the existing beliefs to support their new claims. The worst part is that they did not always get it right. The "prophecy" that a virgin would give birth is based on a mistranslation. The "prophecy" that he would ride into Jerusalem on a donkey uses a common Hebrew style of repetition leading Matthew to have the disciples steal two donkeys and say "And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon" (chapter 21) so that Jesus could ride into Jerusalem on two animals at the same time.

There are always apologetic excuses for why the text doesn't mean what it says but in the end it makes far more sense that the authors embellished their stories with things from earlier stories that people believed than that somebody knew the future. It also makes more sense that some things may just be coincidence; if I say that in 200 years somebody in New York will have lunch it isn't really very impressive. Unless the text is very specific and not about an event that others could re-enact deliberately it doesn't mean much.

There's very little evidence that Jesus even existed, let alone that he did anything described in the bible, and none that he actually fulfilled prophecy.

When you nail someone in that fashion as implied by the bible and spear them in the side and let them bleed out and leave them there for days, Superman nor Yoda are going to save them.

Good thing I'm not a black non believer...
Panic
because this could be scary, if I didn't know the bible was not written to me or to my specific culture or even to my civilizations understanding.

WHAT JESUS SAID
“For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and will then repay every man according to his deeds. Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom. (Matthew 16: 27, 28)j [/quote]

Some didn't.Through some of the profetic writtings of Paul it is said he was privy to the end, and the whole book of revelation is a huge testament that John saw everything there was to come at the end. remember how this book was written. as a historical account meaning he wrote down everything he saw and explained it the best way he could.

Quote:Behold, I have told you in advance. So if they say to you, ‘Behold, He is in the wilderness,’ do not go out, or, ‘Behold, He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe them. For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes even to the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be. Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.
But immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory. And He will send forth His angels with a great trumpet and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.
Quote:
Now learn the parable from the fig tree: when its branch has already become tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near; so, you too, when you see all these things, recognize that He is near, right at the door. Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. (Matthew 24: 25-34)

The word generation in the greek means people born into a 25 to 30 period or it can mean a group of related men or it can mean a whole people or even a group of like minded people, specifically:metaph. a group of men very like each other in endowments, pursuits, character

Like Say IDK the whole of Christianity.. which would change the meaning of what Christ said to mean His followers shall not passaway till these things happen. meaning there will be christian on earth when judgement comes.

Quote:“Then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. And then He will send forth the angels, and will gather together His elect from the four winds, from the farthest end of the earth to the farthest end of heaven. Now learn the parable from the fig tree: when its branch has already become tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near. Even so, you too, when you see these things happening, recognize that He is near, right at the door. Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place… (Mark 13:26-30)
again same greek word sme greek meaning.

Quote:“Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near. Then He told them a parable: Behold the fig tree and all the trees; as soon as they put forth leaves, you see it and know for yourselves that summer is now near. So you also, when you see these things happening, recognize that the kingdom of God is near. Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all things take place. (Luke 21:27-32)
proving easier than I thought it would. Same greek word same meaning

Quote:In these passages Jesus is explicit about his return. He said that he would return riding the clouds with angels to judge the world and that with the sound of a trumpet he would send his angels to gather his chosen ones from the Earth. This would be no secret, invisible or “spiritual” event. Instead, the whole world would see him in the sky just the whole world sees the light of the sun. This was to happen some time during the generation of those to whom he was speaking. To make it clear to his listeners that this event would not be in the distant future, he told them that some of them who were there listening to him would still be alive to see it.
Again! Christendom will not pass will not die off from the world before these things happen. the Greek word used here is not limited to the English interpretation of just 25 to 30 years. Even then both Paul and John had witnessed the end times during their life times John being the one who lived long enough to write about it.
As the book of Revelation is proof that some standing before Christ would themselves see the end. John did and gave us the book of revelation.
Quote:“But Jesus kept silent and the high priest said to Him, “I adjure you by the living God, that you tell us whether you are the Christ, the Son of God.” Jesus said to him, “You have said it yourself; nevertheless I tell you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.“” (Matthew 26: 63, 64)
This passage is from the story of Jesus’ trial. Jesus tells the high priest that he would see him return riding on the clouds.
who say we still can see this. revelation says we will all see something like this.
what else you got?
