I remember way back when.....

I remember when gasoline was 33 cents a gallon, and you could buy a new Volkswagon Beetle for $2000.

I remember when The Flintstones first appeared on TV.

I remember when cars didn't have seat belts.

I remember buying 45 RPMs of Beatles' songs when they first came out.

I remember when Pong was a cool video game.

I remember standing in lines at banks to withdraw money, before ATMs.

I remember standing in long, slow lines at grocery stores when prices had to be punched into cash registers, before scanners.

I remember when the engineering department got its first two computer terminals connected to the mainframe.  All the engineers in the room had to share them.

Yeah, that's right.
You'd leave money with a note for how much milk you wanted plus a small wire frame to hold them.
Milk bottles with alfoil caps and if you were up early enough you could by a small flavoured milk carton from the milkman.
And no plastic, only Tupperware.
Bread came in waxy paper and you got your groceries in a brown paper bag, of which the bottom would fall out if the checkout chick didn't wrap your cold, wet items in enough newspaper.
Fish and chips wrapped in newspaper, no washing up!

People had manners and we respected our elders, well, more than they do today.
You could punch a man in the face for disrespecting you but you wouldn't kick him when he was on the ground.
There was always a place behind the back of every pub where people would gather to smoke pot.
If you wanted to know something, you went to the library and looked up an encyclopedia.
You had a pay packet every Friday afternoon and if you lost it at the pub that night you were fucked for the next week.
Families would walk down the city streets at night looking at displays in the shop front windows.
No shopping centres, just individual shops.
Kodak film and tiny pictures (slides) surrounded by white cardboard that you could stick in a projector and look at on the wall.
Milkshakes in an aluminium cup.

You'd be surprised how many companies/businesses, as they still do today, still refuse to update or adapt because of costs.

It would not surprise me if places were still using manual switchboards even in the 1970s, maybe not many, but still.

But this was the LAPD.

An aside, us old fogies remember Adam 12. The lady voice dispatcher on the show, was a REAL dispatcher too.
