Star Wars - does it have a future?
RE: Star Wars - does it have a future?
Resurrecting because I can't be bothered starting a new thread.

Come at me!

I have just read two Star Wars news items. One is announced, the other is rumoured.

There will be a new Star Wars movie written (in part) and directed by Taika Waititi. The other writer is someone I've never heard of but apparently wrote a movie called "17" or something like that.

The rumour is that the second season of The Mandalorian may feature the second character to come from an animated series into a live action show: Ahsoka Tano.

If so, it should be interesting.

The first two movies of the last trilogy have been a serious let down.  And it seems with Abrams helming the last movie, we're likely to get more of the same.

Rogue One, on the other hand, was in my personal opinion, the best SW movie since Empire.

Then we have Solo.  While kinda fun it wasn't a great movie.

On the TV front, the animated shows have, for the most part, been great.  They have filled out the gaps between movies very well.  I'm not loving what little I've seen of the new animated shw, "Resistance", but I'll judge it on its own merits.

And the new live action show, "The Mandalorian" shows promise but we'll see about that, too.

So, should we be optimistic or pessimistic about the future?

Does Star Wars have a future? In what context?

I think they should have stopped after the original 3.  But money talks, so who knows.

There was also a Friday The 13th  "Jason Takes Manhattan". And pretty sure at some point some board Hollywood writer/director will want to dredge that up again too.

Classic movies that people love stem from the originals, and it is hard if not impossible to create a franchise over decades.

The Star Wars Series has become a lot like the James Bond movies, every generation has their favorite.

Personally I hate everything past the first 3 original Star Wars. But just like I hate Sean Connery and love Roger Moore and Timothy Dalton, who can say?

Jaws 3d sucked and so did "Jaws The Revenge".

In the original context that a lot of the fan base have been thoroughly disappointed with the sequel movies, especially The Last Jedi.

Since I originally made this thread before before The Rise of Skywalker, The Mandalorian, and the last season of Clone Wars were released.

Yes, they may continue milking it so long as it makes money (Disney did pay over 6 billion dollars for it), and I think the current leadership team is heading in the wrong direction.

Only those who are making the animated series and, to a lesser extent, the Mandalorian, seem to have any idea about the lore and history of the SW galaxy.

Also remember that there were originally plans for nine movies. Lucas just stopped after Revenge of the Sith because of negative fan reactions.

Oh well, I remember before first Matrix movie came out there were also articles how this movie is part of trilogy and then after it ends they will make a prequel trilogy (which didn't happen). I mean what's the thing with trilogies?
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Wait? I thought Lucas cut ties with the franchise after the first 3? My memory sucks of course, but the only thing about why he got so rich off this franchise was because he made a toy deal, and the original backers of the movie didn't think the original would do that well.

I can remember as a kid/ early teen collecting all the Star Wars Trading cards and even mailed in for the "Early Bird" special which was a multiple pack of action figures. And that was right after the first movie came out.

But again, I had no clue Lucas had a 9 movie deal.

Oh i never seen this Star Wars thread

The future of Star Wars rests with one character. A character that has captured the hearts of children and adults alike.

He is the savior of the whole Star Wars galaxy, the messiah to be worshiped by all...

Whatever happens with STAR WARS, I doubt it can sink as low as the Star Trek franchise has with Picard. I made it to episode, er, 5, perhaps, but then my limit was reached and I decided it was SO appalling in virtually all trajectories that it was actually UNWATCHABLE. Never thought I'd say that about the Trek  Faints

We called it baby Zoda - the Mandalorian is set after the "death" of Yoda.

I have to agree, the cartoons are cool, Rogue One was excellent and Solo was disappointing

In that order, nothing more. I really tried to give the new ones a chance, but they fall flat to me compared to the original 3.
