Is Christianity EVIL?

RE: Is Christianity EVIL?
IS CHRISTIANITY (OR ISLAM) EVIL?

In a word; NO

In my opinion none of the major world religions are any more evil than those who practice them.

Without exception, all religions were invented by men to meet human needs. They always reflect the times, the culture and individuals who invent them. The Abrahamic faiths especially are so contradictory that every believer is forced to cherry pick to settle on his or her own emphasis. This is a reflection of the person rather than anything written in his holy books.

If religious teachings were clear [ and revealed truth] there would not be literally hundreds of sects. If religions were good or evil in themselves, either the good person or the bad person would be rare. This is not the case.Every religion has its share of saints, mystics and total arseholes. My perception is most of the followers of the Abrahamic faiths (at least) are ordinary people, neither especially good nor especially bad.

In my opinion, the worst that can be said of any believer we've had here on this forum is that they are annoying, arrogant and willfully ignorant, but by no means bad people. I have never actually met a person I consider truly bad or truly good, although a couple have come close in each category. I find this reality confusing, considering the claims of many believers and critics.

I don't even consider the poor dumb bastards who blow themselves up to be evil, just gullible and perhaps rather stupid. BUT those who send them are evil cunts. Fred Phelps is also an evil cunt. Sarah Palin seems more a dumb cunt than an evil one. However, her record does seem to suggest she's pretty corrupt.Angel Cloud

Yes Christianity is evil. It's pro-sacrifice.

Yes to a certian extent is it is evil. Mainly because the Evanglist christians are totally insane.
"Religious faith is the species of human ignorance that will not admit even the possibillity of correction."-Sam Harris
For Man to move forward we must throw away religion, and put it in the Mythology section, and then use Reason, Logic, and Common sense to solve all our daily problems. That's a Higher Level of Thinking.

That is a declarative sentence, not an argument, built on a moral position. IE that sacrifice is wrong in principle and specifically.

Be thrilled to hear your evidence for the assertion of your universal moral absolute..

Emotional claptrap unsupported by any evidence I've seen.SOME evangelists appear to be clinically insane. My observation is most believers of all types are simply suffering from cognitive dissonance of varying severity, but are quite sane

I repeat my position:None of the major religions are evil (whatever 'evil' means; I'm unaware of an objective definition)

No religion has the clarity of teaching,or cohesion to be entirely/mainly good or bad. Any evil comes from followers who are deluded/gullible/ stupid/ignorant/opportunistic,or just old fashioned cunts.Human beings are simply not rational enough or self dicliplined enough consistently follow any belief or ideology. We are however cunning enough to use such things to rationalise any behaviour whatsoever. Hence in practice, human behaviour is dominated by one and only one principle"the ends justify the means". We are extremely good at justifying out acts post hoc.

A belief system which demands punishment disproportionate to crime, one in where there is no recourse nor rehabilitation, wherein those who escape punishment are forever happy as others are forever tormented does not seem to me a very fertile ground for morality.

It's evil if you start with the premise that suffering is bad. Ultimately it's not bad as nothing is ultimately immoral (or moral). The world is amoral, yes.

MMM maybe not evil in itself but certainly 'not good'.

You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.
