We have to "respect" Christian beliefs. I do hold respect for higher standarts. More grounded to reality ones.

They were only nice to me after I offered to go above them. When I (very politely, as I honestly always shy away from confrontation afk and never like to cause big waves) just asked them, they all but told me to fuck off. It wasn’t until I made the “threat” that they were nice to me. (July 15, 2019 at 1:04 pm)tackattack Wrote: What if I had asked the kids, "Does anyone here want to lead us in quick prayer?" Would that have been acceptable? IMO, no. The only way that would be acceptable is if it were a Christian organization. Would it be okay with you if someone suggested a child on your son’s team lead the entire team in a prayer to Satan?
@Losty - That sounds ashame that the threat was necessary to get respect. I guess I just prefer the, "let's talk this out" method to the "let me speak to your supervisor". I honestly don't think I've done that more than once.
I understand that you don't feel it would be acceptable in a non-Christian sponsored setting, regardless of the circumstance. Yes I am OK with someone leading the team in a very brief prayer to Satan, or a wiccan circle, or a Hindu mantras, or Salat. I've experienced all of those things and it's a good way to see a different person's perspective, while not being forced to participate.
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post

I wonder if you would feel the same if you lived in a world where most people worshipped Satan and you knew that by not participating your child would be ostracized at best and possibly bullied. Here is the bottom line.
If Christians aren't allowed to insert their beliefs/faith/rituals on everyone they are being persecuted. Ask them...they'll tell you. Even in liberal NZ I’ve encountered whiny pricks who think they have the right to push their religion on kids in public schools. Playing Cluedo with my mum while I was at Uni: "You did WHAT? With WHO? WHERE???"
I've discriminated against x-tians heaps.
When hiring staff I would always ask if they can work on Sundays and slip in, 'are you religious?' at the end, like I don't really care. Most chefs are addicted to drugs or alcohol, or more likely, both. We don't need x-tians around monitoring our nefarious activities. And on top of that, they can be so fucking boring. |
