"Good" & "Bad" Christians?
August 15, 2019 at 10:40 am
Really, sometimes even Christians on this forum scoff us for taking into account only the "bad" Christians. But who would be bad Christians and who good Christians?
Are bad Christians the young Earth creationists who want to abolish science in schools, as well as kill gay people, kill adulterers, kill children who disobey their parents; kill all muslims; who support Trump; are against vaccination?
And are good Christians those like Michael Moore and Stephen Colbert who want gay people to be able to get married, who love science and modern medicine, who don't like Trump?
Who is to say? Certainly I don't see "good" Christians criticizing "bad" Christians.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Good and bad people, regardless of what they ascribe to.

Some sarcasm, but not really:
"Good Christians are those who ultimately contribute to well being, bad Christians are those who ultimately diminish well being."
At the end of their life, if we tallied up whether their contrition to wellbeing was positive, then we can call them good. If we tally it up, it comes back with a balance owed, then bad would be the appropriate term for them.

When the question is about good and bad, it seems to be an appropriate place for it.
Plus I don't think many other topics are as interesting as good and bad.

Good Christians seem to be the ones who veer farthest from a literal interpretation of both testaments. A common term for these people is 'atheist'.

Good is relative. There are good Christians just as there were good Nazis.

In my view, "good" Christians are good people who know who they are and what they are and what they stand for beyond the framework of religion, and are willing to act accordingly. They refuse to allow their minds to become colonized by that shit.
Fundamentalists may regard such people as "bad" Christians, of course. But "good" Christians won't give a fuck.
That's my take.
