I do shout and scream myself. But not because I want immortality, but because I see the good in my species, in that we are perfectly capable of problem solving while ditching tribalism and ego.

I do fear however, our species tribalism will shorten our ride. I hope not though.

'Sound and fury', not 'Flurry Of Activity'.

And I really, REALLY don't think you understand what MacBeth was saying in that scene.

Boru

Yes I do dude.

Ultimately life doesn't mean shit.

It was however saying that the "now" matters.

The problem with theists and politicians, of all ilk, is that they miss this point, along with Sagan's point.

Now DOES matter, but 4 billion years ago does not, 13.8 billion years ago does not, and 10 billion years from now wont either.

The only thing humans can do pragmatically is extend the finite ride we have. I'd only argue that religion, while you cant rid the word of it, is a sucky way of extending our species ride, because it is so fucking tribal.

Shakespeare WAS right. There were far more Pharaohs in the Egyptian period than Tut or Akanaton, but outside historians, most can only name a couple. Russia and China also have long histories, but how many can name every single leader either nation has had? I cant name every single president America has had. How many people can name every leader of Iran or Saudi Arabia in their respective histories?

How many teens can name the multitude of pop or rock or rap stars someone my age grew up with? How many people can name all the kings and queens England has had over the past 2 centuries?

There is not one human who can name one single human in our species history that can live forever, because that is a bullshit myth.

I am not more important than Tut or Obama, anymore than I am more evil than Stalin or Hitler.

Sagan got it right. It is right to hate evil, it is right to be kind, but the harsh reality is that nature and the universe are incapable of picking good over evil. Our natural cognitions, our natural empathy are far better guides than the designs of the powers that convince us of tribalism.

For it's time it was a love story, a power triangle. Shakespeare had the insight to recognize what Jerry Springer and Trump did not.

Again, all the players in MacBeth were losers. THAT WAS THE FUCKING POINT

MacBeth was never about, "I got it right"

But "All of us fight for bullshit reasons."

Yet more evidence that you don't understand the play.  Banquo was a loser?  MacDuff?  Lady MacDuff?

The line was not saying "I got it right"

The key line was saying, "Flurry of activity signifying nothing".

Shakespeare certainly had no modern clue of modern science. But that line alone was very intuitive about our finite nature as a species. So yea, ultimately both the good guy and bad guy loose because we all die.

Shakespeare WAS right about that.

There is no such line in MacBeth. This is the second time I've had to correct you on this.

Boru

"full of sound and furry signifying nothing" IS MOST CERTAINLY A LINE IN THAT PLAY/SCENE!

"Told by an idiot" preceded those words.

Quote:Quote Macbeth Act 5, Scene 5.... Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player

That struts and frets his hour upon the stage

And then is heard no more: it is a tale

Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,

Signifying nothing.

Ok I got the exact words wrong, but the sentiment is the same.

Life ends for both the good guy and bad guy.

And of course, the exact words don't matter when quoting a play.

-'Yo, Romeo - sup wid dat name?'

-'On this, our Shiny Cripple's Day!'

-'Etude, Brucius?'

-'Yon Cassilus has a mean and angry fork.'

-'Oh, beware, my lord, of jellybeans.'

For the record, MacBeth is lamenting the death of his wife, and is contemplating his own suicide.  THAT's what the passage means.
