Age of Deconversion

As to your other contention..it's difficult to square that away with pretty much the entirety of christendom. It doesn't seem like christians...a very...very specific claim, are comfortable with not putting god into a box. Christianity is a box, an immensely small box.

If the christian gold told you to skullfuck your neighbor and sell his daughters into slavery, you'd shrug and say "mysterious ways"..then do that, or?

No, I wouldn't do that; and again in scripture you have examples of people disagreeing or standing up to God. Abraham and Moses both stood up to God and pleaded for him to change his mind about destruction. Jonah ran away from God's command to go to Nineveh, and contrary to Moses and Abraham, Jonah was upset because God wouldn't destroy Nineveh forgiving them instead. Disagreeing with God, and standing up against him, are not inconsistent with Christianity.

OFC not, "israel" literally means "to struggle or wrestle with or against god".

-but doesn't this admission erode the premise of your earlier question and comments? If god couldn't be boxed, as you've boxed god in, you wouldn't be accepting or worshipful either. Correct?

Mysterious ways doesn't work for you, you are emphatically not comfortable with such a god. Or is that not a fair assessment? Coincidentally, this is something that your god ordered..and then punished israel for failing to completely achieve. What do you make of that?

Does this make you believe in god less, or reduce your desire to worship god?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. Well, there's that gotcha moment breezy was going for. That most atheists are just angry at god. Like I said in my youth I was angry, but with adulthood the realization is simple, how can you be angry towards something that does not exist?

They always stumble into their own gotchas. : shrugs :

Pro-tip for the fishers of men...you might want to mark the place you buried the landmine on a map, so you don't step on your own shit.

No, I think it corroborates my point of not worshiping or obeying God if he's evil, all the while being certain he exists. Mysterious ways still applies, just not with the scenario you mentioned. The attitude behind mysterious ways, is that all things work together for good, even if they are not presently good; it allows for God to justify what happened in the future, because we may not have all the facts at the moment. That is different from God asking me to insert any phallic object into my neighbor's skull, which seems to be an immediate violation of what God stands for, and I would kindly decline.

As far as Israel goes, what specific event are you describing?

Why doesn't mysterious ways apply in the situation I mentioned, what sorts of situations does it apply to...and if it doesn't...what do you make of the situation I mentioned, which is what your god is alleged to have ordered and done? How would skullfucking your neighbor and selling his daughters into slavery be an immediate violation of what god stands for, and if it is, why did god order that? Why can't god violate what he stands for, or what you believe he stands for, now that we're mentioning it?

Or did he, and if he didn't, if magic book is not credible in that respect, how is it that you've determined when magic book is and isn't credible..and are you using any other metric (what metric) than what you are comfortable with, the box you've put god in?

It does seem rare for someone to view God as loving and forgiving, but fictional nonetheless. It seems to come with the territory that once you think God doesn't exist you have to view him as evil.

I can't parse this, it's a strong contender for the stupidest thing you have ever said. And the competition is strong.
It's amazing 'science' always seems to 'find' whatever it is funded for, and never the oppsite. Drich.

They're more like lines in a play than thoughts a person has mulled over.

I'll just add more to my questions above. If you would "kindly decline" to do what god ordered, what would that make you? Sinful or virtuous? If god handled your declination (or failure) as it handled the failure of israel to carry out it's order..what would that make god?

A being more or less deserving of worship? A being more or less qualified to wield the power to condemn you for your own assumed human decency? Is god the author of that human decency? Does it expect something other that what it created? Why...and what would that tell you about the god you worship?

The association is simply the impression I've gotten; which I'm open to being false. Hence why I wonder if there are atheists here that agree with the Christian narrative that God is love, while maintaining that he is fiction.

What additional information, available to a god but not to you, would you take as justifying the act of skullfucking your neighbor and selling his daughters into slavery?
