Edit: never mind, bad day here.

Either way, Trump will simply whinge about how badly he’s been persecuted, will foray into whataboutism territory, and laud himself as the greatest American president since Benjamin Washington. Boru

That all said, I'll be surprised if the senate trial isn't finished before the address.

Pretty much none. At any point, the Senate can vote to dismiss the articles of impeachment by a simple majority. It’s very unlikely, but I wouldn’t put it past them if this drags on. Boru

Considering that the whole poinlt was to belittle Trump as much as possible - (there was virtually no chance of him being removed from office) - it seems all they can do is a flaming bag of dogshit on his doorstep.... -and still it remains a fact that this isn't the point. A pleasant benefit of pursuing the foundational principles of our republic, sure..but not the point.
I do appreciate that you're looking for an acceptable way out of trumpism, though - I've always maintained that this is all that stands in the way of getting rid of the fucker. People who amplify trumpist messaging are still people. They see that something is amiss, and want to right that ship, but..preferably, in a way that conforms to all of their stated opinions and positions these least few years. Good luck with that.
