Can we also talk about the pleasures of good wine?
|
For me, wine is wine. I am not particular to any specific brand or taste.

There are are slew of vineyards west of St. Louis. We have our choice of some very nice wines. I'm partial to a Seyval Blanc from the Augusta Winery.

Yesterday I bought a fine Gewürztraminer.

Our unconscious brains go: It tastes GROSS - yet is popular, oh boy! Sounds like you are one of those over-pious fanatical evangelical fundamentalists in the US - for whom any alcohol is pagan and satanic. Is that so?
I'm still learning about wine varieties. I like sangria and Chardonnay. Rose is okay, too. I'm a cheap date. Target had 3 liter boxes of Rose for $12. I bought three.
I'm currently on a whiskey kick. (October 23, 2020 at 7:24 pm)Dundee Wrote: Yesterday I bought a fine Gewürztraminer. Nope, British atheist and former (recent) heavy drinker. Alcohol actually tastes yucky and that's just a fact - compare it to coke or lemonade or hot chocolate etc etc etc to realise the truth. It's just habit and brainwashing which tricks people into thinking it tastes good.
Alcohol isnt perfect. Its like liquid cocaine. Many people die because of it.
Here are the (rubbish, but "hypnotic") reasons people drink with relish:
Habit + escapism + brainwashing (society screams it's "normal and fun to drink" from every orifice/off licence, supermarket, bar, film, advert etcetcetc) + Suffering Yangs (there are so many big downsides to drinking it MUST have something really great about it or people wouldn't do it!) + forbidden fruit fallacy (we all know alcohol is a "bit" naughty)+ calorific gratification + association with good/party times (they even drink Champaign at birthdays and wedding in Star Trek FFS). And here are some of the excellent reasons NOT to be an "enthusiastic" drinker: Ruinous to health and puts oh so many in an early grave – good health! Very fattening - you'll lose lots of excess weight! Causes dermatitis – good complexion! Costs an absolute FORTUNE - You'll be LOADS more wealthy! Can't drive if drinking – You can get a lush car safely! Heavy drinking looks ugly – You'll be way more attractive due to these factors! Humiliating to drink - stable life – no more drunken antisocial behaviour and the fallout from that! All the stress RE drunk deeds – no more "fuck, what might I have done last night?!" ANXIETY! Feel lively and capable, not hungover! Get good stuff done instead of being drunk! No need to clear up after yourself every day! VERY polluting - save the planet – consuming faaaaar less! V painful acid indigestion - Freedom from acid indigestion and good sleep! Consume delicious drinks instead of necessarily disgusting tasting alcohol! Fabulous new found self esteem! Sets a great example to others! Looks strong and awesome to be basically sober! No more humiliation! No more STRESS and ANXIETY through drinking despite these huge reasons not to!!! |
