Ditto. I was raised to 'pay cash or do without'.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Nowt wrong with credit cards if you use them properly. We keep a couple, simply for online shopping or booking travel - it makes things like that a helluva lot easier and if you pay your balance quickly, the interest is minimal or non-existent. Boru

No one who isn’t savvy enough to use credit cards should have them. I was saying how my wife and I use them. It’s a right royal pain in the arse to try and book a hotel stay or a flight without a credit card. We’re fortunate to be in a position that allows us to use the card and pay the bill in full before the end of the billing cycle. It’s a lot safer than a debit card and a lot more convenient than carrying around great walloping wads of cash. But I agree with you that people who most need credit are the people most likely to be taken advantage of. Boru

My husband isn't getting paid right now. I think we'll be okay for a little while on my salary alone, as long as it doesn't last too long. Our schools are shut down until mid-april now, but at least I'll still be getting paid. He'll at least have a job when all this blows over, but who knows how well they'll do once everything gets back to normal.

I used to be cash only, though since kids came along I've found I have to resort to the debit card more often as I simply don't have opportunity to get to the cash machine every time.
The real problem is when places insist I sign up for Direct Debit, that has caused me to wind up with overdrafts on occasion. I did have a credit card back in Uni, just-in-case. Never used it.
