US police brutality item

RE: US police brutality item
Neo-con parties excluded  Hmph

But seriously AWTY, I take your point. I'm in favour of mandatory empathy and intelligence tests be implemented to decide who gets a vote. Age alone is such an arbitrary measure of wisdom and kindness.

In other news more strikingly on topic - I read that the "hat" photo is a fake and also, even more pertinently perhaps:

"The Minnesota police handbook states that officers trained on how to compress the neck without applying direct pressure to the airway can use a knee under its use-of-force policy. This is regarded as a non-deadly-force option."

The first amendment is not the cause of racism. Racism is a deeply rooted state of mind in the US. It is taught from generation to generation and often supported by certain religious factions as they use the Bible to back their claims.

Try living in the deep south of the US for a time as someone who was not born and raised there. Some of the things I heard took my breath away.

Speaking out now are those who were keeping their hate somewhat hidden but have been given the go-ahead to spew their nonsense loudly and proudly. The only good I see of it is that you are more likely to know now who has those racist leanings now that the PC filter has been taken off thanks to our bigots in charge.

And I don't bust on the south alone. In other areas of the country where racism was even more kept from public view, it's now acceptable to fly that flag.

You can thank the democratically elected government officials and their supporters for putting on public display what was often hidden from people who don't want to see such ugliness.

Oh, you mean like Trump and his cronies?  They certainly are doing a damn fine job deciding what's allowable.
Exactly.

Censorship sounds great -

When you are in charge.

Not so much when you are the dissenting minority.

I blame the first amendment. Racism is alive and well in some varicose veins and dingy corners of society and it should be extirpated wherever it is found, but unfortunately in the states, for example, it is allowed to grow and thrive due to the first amendment.. You'd probably get arrested if you wore that hat in the UK, by and large.  Viva La Libertà

The AP says the picture giving "proof" that the officer is racist is FAKE.

But that won't stop the "true believers" that KNOW otherwise.

It never does.

I wrote it's a fake in post #31 online biker. It is one of my better posts in fact, allow me to recommend you read it all. Thinking on with this - is it really plausible, never mind likely, that a serving PO in the USA, with all the racial tensions that entails in this day and age, would be plumb STUPID enough to have a photo up on social media of themselves wearing a MWGA hat? I say no.

I can share a picture of my prison guard brother's lake house with the Trump 2020 banner hanging from the balcony.  Yep...if there is anyone stupid enough, it's a Trump supporter.

I think there are even pics of him, his wife, and his nitwit son in their Trump T-shirts.

Try again.

**edit**A quick look at this Facebook shows those pictures have been removed...maybe it isn't a good idea as a state employee nearing retirement to have those out there. Might be why he got demoted to night shift.

I did. You said you read it... That is never enough for the "True Believers" ®.....

I provided a link to an AP story.

Of course that doesn't prove anything to somebody who already made up their mind.....

Let’s pause and assume that the cop in question is not a racist. Let’s assume that he would have treated a white suspect in exactly the same way.  You know - knee on the the neck and ignoring the repeated pleas of a manacled man who says he can’t breathe and is begging for his life.

Would you want to be arrested by that cop? I think the discussion that this cop may or may not be a racist is kind of obscuring what he did.

Going a step further - perhaps the kneeling officer believed he was competent and in that (legal and authorised) restraint technique and has "learnt" - "oh, they always say they can't breathe."

On a manacled suspect. Who wasn’t resisting. This cop is a bad guy, racist or not.

The city's mayor is to blame for his statement IMO - talk about buying into a prevailing narrative wholesale:

Quote:“Being black in America should not be a death sentence,” the city’s mayor said as video of the arrest was widely shared.

How do you know he wasn't resisting pre "knee on neck" ?
