So... if a diety can be all loving and caring and "Here's some cancer for you. Oh! Here's some disease for you. Have some random weather/earth event for you..." what with such actions being all 'Mysterious ways' kind of thing.
Why even think of giving said diety any sort of acknowledgement?
Just curious.
Cheers.

Like I wrote previously, I don't think the purpose of life in this world is happiness, so I don't view cancer or natural disasters in the same way that you do. I believe we're put in situations that maximize our chances of turning to God.
That's... interesting.....
Uhm... so... dying of cancer is kind of "Here... have this pain and suffering and die quickly already." sort of thing?
Or "Fek it." * SMACKS people with a volcano* "Right! Who worshiped me and who didn't? You didn't? Right! Off to the other place for YOU!".
Seems rather... odd.
Also... how might something like... Oh, say, randomly getting hit by a bus while crossing the street help one get closer to a diety?
All very curiouser and curiouser..... Surely a diety that has the 'All powerful' job descriptor could think of some other ways to go about things?
EDIT: Now, there's a thought. Why can't a "Maximally great being" make a 'Maximally great reality'?
Cheers.

Two questions. How old are you? Is English your first language?
I don't think God zaps people dead or gives them cancer. The chaos and corruption that we see in the world probably has more to do with God keeping Himself at arm's length from His creation because of the sins of mankind. It may even be the case that God is using this corruption and chaos to draw people closer to Him.
To me a maximally great world would be one that brings the most people into a saving relationship with God and I believe we are in such a world.

1) Yes, English is my first language. Though it's not something I'd call myself proficienet with, really.
2) Uhm.. isn't asking a person's age a tad personal and impolite? Though, for the sake of brevity, my entry into the world was some time last century. Hope that helps some what.
I always like that "People did bad things way back in the dim, dark ages (Which are only known through tall tales etc)... So bad things now happen to the long line of descendants of said people who did the bad things" trope. Still doesn't make sense to me I'm afraid.
What do you mean "My diety doesn't give people cancer" ?
If your diety set the world in motion and everything in it that would transpire then.....
Of course. That said diety created everything and, hence, got the ball rolling as it were is some how not a blemish on the diety's character but on the minions who are trapped within the hamster wheel of said deity's making seems neither here nor there. Again, wierd.
We're in a 'Maximally great world' that's also shot through with corruption?
Uhm.. so.. does that also make it 'Maximally corrupt' as well?
Cheers.

That's not my stance. I'm referring to something much more fundamental than that. Mankind possesses free will and so each person can decide to follow their own will or God's. All people fail to follow God's will 100% of the time, and that's what I'm referring to when I say mankind's sin.
Quote:What do you mean "My diety doesn't give people cancer" ?
I never used the phrase "my deity."
Quote:If your diety set the world in motion and everything in it that would transpire then.....
But that doesn't lead to God creating cancer. For example, one of God's creations could have freely chosen to create cancer. That being said, I believe cancer is a result of God keeping Himself at arm's length from His creation. But that's in reaction to the sin of mankind, so, ultimately, mankind is to blame.
Quote:We're in a 'Maximally great world' that's also shot through with corruption?
If a maximally great world is one where a maximum number of people come into a saving relationship with God, then I don't see why such a world would be devoid of corruption, evil, etc. (whatever you want to call it). In fact, many people turn to God because of the evils of the world.

Tell me if I've got this right. Cancer is mans fault, because of sin, which is not doing whatever gods will is, as he keeps us at arms length.

Update: God can only bring a limited number of people to his religion. He can save at most 144,000.

Why would I do that? I never said God hasn't, isn't, or won't physically heal people.

Ah. the ban hammer dropped on the busted mirror. Wonder what it was that put him over the edge.
Probably insufficient self reflection.
