Oh, please. What does a black man have to fear from white cops in this day and age?

Right? I love how cleverly the attorney for the family boxed the police in before they could start with that garbage. They were going to float the idea that having pointed the cops taser at the him (what a fuckup), the cop might fear for his life...but the police department insists that tasers are not lethal in cases currently before the same court.
I think that if a cop pulled his taser or any other weapon on me I should be within my rights to shoot him dead on the spot. Isn't that a good use of stand your ground laws? Thew cops out here tend to approach while announcing from a distance in a non threatening pose. I had an entire conversation with a sheriff attempting to serve a warrant from half way up my drive. It's almost as if they know there are armed nuts in the woods and that no one is going to come and save them if they start shit, or something.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. Maybe it's time the US took a hard, serious look at policing by consent, as opposed to policing by power.

That's just another one of those things that other people have figured out how to do which is beyond the ability of America The Great, or so we're told.

Innocent man?
Or
Out of control fucker who just fought off two cops and is loose with civilians available to take hostage?
You have 1.5 seconds to make a decision.
And yeah - the cop made the wrong one - probably....
We really don't know what would have happened next. At least MY crystal ball isn't working.
So yeah - I vote both are at fault.
I kinda doubt the cop would have shot the guy had he not gotten violent.

I looked it up for you. This is the penalty for a third DUI in Georgia, the state where Brooks was killed:
Quote:Georgia DUI law considers an Atlanta DUI third offense in ten years to be the last step before trying future convictions as felony crimes. A Georgia DUI third offense carries a mandatory 15-day jail sentence, with fines ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. Driver’s license revocation extends for five years (if there are three convictions within five years), and community service is required for 30 days. The name, address and photo of the offender is published in a local newspaper at his or her expense.
Third offenders are declared to be habitual violators (if there are three DUI convictions within five years). Their license plates are confiscated, mandatory clinical evaluation is required and the courts can require completion of a substance abuse treatment program, as well as installation of an ignition interlock device on their vehicles.
You'll notice that nowhere does it say that a third DUI offense is punishable by death administered by the cop on the scene, prior to a conviction in a court of law.
In fact, I think I’m on fairly sold ground in saying that NOTHING Brooks did in the video (sleeping in a car, being drunk, driving drunk, resisting arrest, stealing a taser, running away) carries the penalty of summary execution.
Boru
But is it even clear that he is getting arrested for DUI? Cos he wasn't driving the car and the cop isn't clear about why his getting handcuffed i think.
Like what does he say just before he tries to cuff him? I can't make it out

That escalated quickly. He went from a drunk sleeping one off in his car to a hostage taker. What other imaginary future crimes might the police shoot someone for?
He was trying to leverage call and response behavior to get the man to say something which could be construed as an admission of guilt to a crime he wasn't actually caught committing, agno.

Is the answer: "Nothing, as long as he doesn't resist arrest" ???
Did I win?

Resisting arrest isn't a capital offense, and police aren't executioners. Or, you know..they're not supposed to be.
