Chess trumps Kickboxing
Guys, we know in principle that violence isn't the answer. (Unless you're a kickboxer of course).

But you know what, I'm struggling to find a paradigm or meaningful change in our history where violence wasn't the vehicle for change?
Is it a simple matter of might is right? (Is "The law of the jungle" still a influential component of our DNA?).

Then I look at China today, and realize they're all living in Orwell's 1984.
How can you even fight or protest when Big Brother won't let you even buy a coffee or catch as bus. (at the push of a button).
This method of 'bringing change" is much more insidious than violence itself.

(I'm not going to apologize for using the word "trump" anymore than apologize for having "white" teeth).

Violence and Sex. Our 2 lowest common denominators.
Which is also 99% of Hollywood's products. (Including the combination of the 2! (The Accused - Academy award- best actress- Jodie Foster))

No-one is trying to ban rape movies? WTF is going on?

Violence and sex are intrinsic parts of human existence. What other aspects of life would you like removed from films? Ice cream? Dancing? Picnics?

Depends on the musical.

And I prefer the term "Canaanite".

There's a major vehicle for change that wasn't violent, per se. That was industrialization. The world is very different from 1820.

There's an argument to be made that industrialization was another form of the state export of violence, and it needs to be said that violence could never have reached the level of art is has since industrialization without that assist.

Violence is ubiquitous on this rock not because it's in human nature, specifically, but because this planet is a meat grinder covered in creatures that compete with each other over who can eat whom alive, asshole first...first.

In reality, violence is almost always the answer - but affirming that in principle isn't the best way to keep our populace docile and compliant, so we propagandize each other and ourselves to insist otherwise. The pacifist's conceit has it's pros and cons.
For what it's worth, it seems like I'm too late to bring up this point about his OP: Whether or not it's possible if something can come from nothing, it's clear that God, if he exists, definitely violates that principle: After all, what is the creation of the world but his creating something out of nothing?
