It's a very common view to hold different churches as products of different religions, as under durkheims definition. We have all sorts of words for the endless schisms of western monotheism - for example.
The value of durkheims, specifically with respect to that - is that it's a definition which accurately describes non schismatic religions as well - while being applicable to schismatic religions - by the exact same metrics - at any level of magnification.
Pick two different protestant churches. They will have different beliefs and practices relative to sacred things which unite them in a moral whole. They are different churches because their religions are different.
We could split a single physical church - as in a building- in half on such lines and repeat the same - then we could split that, and the next and the next, until we get to indivisible units and people torn between two sets of different beliefs and practices)
Shared normative content circumscribes shared practices and beliefs which unite any of these groups, at any magnification, called by any name, as a whole.

I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. However many people are united by a set of beliefs and practices relative to the sacred which unite them in a moral whole.
Could be one, could be 12, could be millions. Like jesus, then his apostles, and now the rest of all of you.

Seems like a similarly variable number, doesn't it? I'm biased, lol, but I like to say the minimum number of people to accomplish the job.

There isn't one. An active or living religion is going to have some number greater than one - though they may have been started by one guy - and an inactive or dead religion will have zero.

That wasn't my question. What's the minimum number of people for a government to exist?

There are forms of government with just one member, and forms of government which enfranchise (or claim to enfranchise) every member. Then there are governments which have none, because the state no longer exists.

"A government is the system or group of people governing an organized community."
Do you take issue with this definition? It seems straightforward that governments require a community of two or more people, doesn't it?
