A Thought from a Deist

I agree with most of what you said CC. I find it odd you calling this no name entity god when it then contradicts the attributes of god, according to you. But we need you to explain what this god is. The Christian tradition allows for other gods *shrugs*. Perhaps you could call it "ultimately pointless"
Meh....Deism isn't my cup of tea. Most deists cannot show me why there is a deity, or why I should believe in one (much like theists). In my opinion, indifference to the unknown is NOT a good attitude, but framing the natural world to fit your beliefs certainly is. I don't think you should be so quick to assume that there is a deity in the first place, when we mere humans are winging things like quantum mechanics and astronomy enough as it is. Either way, you are not in the least bit offensive. Deists are essentially atheists with, what seems to be, a more positively wishful attitude concerning the universe as a whole. I have a couple of deist friends, and I would have tagged them as "atheist" before having learned of their true status. I suppose we come from the same camp. Who doesn't like Jefferson and Franklin?

It makes no sense!! ARGGHHH But I have no issue with people believing in a god or not, its usually when religion gets involved that I take issue.
Yes, Skipper's right. 'I could care less' implies that you care to some extent, which I presume isn't what you meant. You meant, 'I couldn't care less', as in 'My level of caring is as low as it can get', i.e. 'I don't give a flying f***.'
'We must respect the other fellow's religion, but only in the sense and to the extent that we respect his theory that his wife is beautiful and his children smart.' H.L. Mencken
'False religion' is the ultimate tautology. 'It is just like man's vanity and impertinence to call an animal dumb because it is dumb to his dull perceptions.' Mark Twain 'I care not much for a man's religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it.' Abraham Lincoln (March 4, 2011 at 5:02 pm)The Omnissiunt One Wrote: Yes, Skipper's right. I personally couldnt care less if a god existed or not, if a god exists, then it is absurd to worship it regardless. Its one thing if it is the fictional bible god, with all of the theocratic rules and evil crap attached to it...but some personal deist god that you keep to yourself shouldnt matter.
Please prove to me that your deity exists.

If you couldn't careless about peoples beliefs and you do not care about this god you discribed then why take the time to explain your belief about a god that will have nothing to do with his creation? Why would a god that could create an entire universe not care about what it had accompished? Since you seem not to care about what others believe then why is it you care about what others believe about you? You are a confusing person.
Welcome to the forum!
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Why would a being who is perfect in every aspect bother to create a universe? Why would a being bother to create a universe full of lesser beings and test them when he already knows how they will do? Why would a being who is perfect allow a baby to be born only to die a day later without giving it the opportunity to face these tests? Why would a perfect being create another immensely powerful being, Satan, and then unleash him on the people he supposedly 'loves'? Why would you believe such a complete load of bullshit to begin with?
