If the win holds up for both Dem candidates, this could be the best thing for both the Republican Party and the country.

It will finally convince some that Donald Trump is a liability, and not an asset. If half the party turns on him because of this, some normalcy may be restored.

They have therefore depended on the electoral college for nearly all presidential victories in the last generation. If we perpetuate the notion that Congress may disregard certified electoral votes—based solely on its own assessment that one or more states mishandled the presidential election—we will be delegitimizing the very system that led Donald Trump to victory in 2016, and that could provide the only path to victory in 2024.

It’s an absolute disaster for the Republican Party. The schism that already exists (Trump Republicans vs Actual Republicans) is going to solidify with the later group growing larger and bolder as Trump becomes more and more irrelevant. The resultant internecine squabbling is going to create more opportunities for Democrats.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see either a formal split in the GOP or a whole raft of non-Trump republicans switch to independent.
