A chilling revelation from Fiona Hill, Trump’s former Russia advisor. Now we know exactly why all the living former Secretaries of Defense suddenly called on the military to refrain from political involvement. They knew Trump’s attempted coup was underway.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Neither reach those extremes unless an extreme leader appears that is able to dupe enough people into following him/her into the abyss. This is precisely what I was worried about in the days leading up to the count. Trump had weeks ago replaced some key military personnel with people who were loyal to him. I don't care how stable everyone believes the US is, if a small army had invaded the capitol and murdered most of the House and Senate, that would have been game over, man. Those people are the government. The only people left would be military leaders and it would then have been a question of loyalties and perceived power. Some generals would have sided with Trump while others might have opposed him. There would likely have been battles, but with Trump holding the codes to nuclear weapons, he holds all the cards. What sensible Republican governor is going to oppose a guy with the nuclear codes? California might have refused to go along, but Trump would likely just wave his hand and say they are no longer in the US. Once the military, or most of it, had capitulated, that would have been it for the old USA republic. The days of the American Empire would be born.

There are ultra conservative trumpits that very much want socialized healthcare and free ed and and a safety net and a universal income.
Conservatives can no longer be identified by their amenability to -actual- socialism...only by their general amenability to belief in the socialist goblins hiding in their closets and under their beds. As Angrboda pointed out either in this thread or another. When they say they want to get welfare queens off the public teat - they mean the other guy, and they mean it as a way to make room for their guys.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
You must be joking. I haven't encountered any of those. Is that a regional trend or generational or what?

You can read all about it in the many cletus safaris that every paper went on these past five years. Generational. Americans found ways to rationalize our growing acceptance of real socialism for some time, but, somewhere between the cold warriors and the homelanders, we decided to drop any pretense. They didn't want obamacare - they wanted trumpcare, which he promised.
I hear that we're supposed to see the details in the next two weeks.

Now authorities have arrested the guy who was smiling at the camera while carrying Nancy Pelosi's lectern.
These brainiacs seem to think that just because they left the area they won't get arrested...smile for the camera you goons. |
