Yesterday's frenzy wiped out the last of the bird seed.  One bag in four days.  So far, only wren, titmouse, and sparrow show interest in quinoa.  I'm glad to have found a use for it.

Our back yard, in the last few days, has frequently looked like a rest area for the cast of "The Birds."  I need to go fill the feeders again.

The big fat robins that have been out front are a little early for their usual spring appearance.

Anybody beat that?

Not this year. But there was one time in the 90's where I was outside at a telescope and it was 25 below. To view, I had to stay still. THAT was cold!

The moisture from my eye condensed and froze onto the eyepiece. But once that settled down, the viewing was spectacular!

That's cool!

Texans.

Your power grid is failing and Fox Noise is blaming it on the failure of wind turbines that only provide 20% of your power.

Some of your people have frozen to death, there is price gouging apparently happening in Houston, and Ted Cruz has gone on holiday to Cancun.

Good to see your politicians care about you.

And now you want all electric cars - and nobody is building new power plants....

Gee - what could go wrong?

Texas is building plenty of new power plants. Wind turbines. They have more wind than anyone else in the us and it's a damned good thing they do..since the fossil fuel solutions are failing in inclement weather while the turbines are running over 100%.

Fox claimed that the turbines were freezing because they knew that it was just the right way to butcher the truth for their audience. TBT, their grid isn't even failing. It's doing exactly what it was designed to do - keep the price of energy high to incentivize producers and investment.

Fixing the energy crisis with windmills is akin to bailing the Titanic with a teacup.

In the twenty years I lived in SC it was a thing to stop and acknowledge even the tiniest breeze.  Such a nice little pleasure from the stifling muggy gnat-filled misery that was the norm.

We moved here to TX and the first thing that went was my collection of various flags.  A "breeze" here can be 25 mph.  Wind gusts of 40 mph are the norm.  It was quite a difference for us to go from air that never moved to air that's never still.

So far, in this weird winter storm, we haven't lost power. I'm figuring our next electric bill could have a comma in it. Apparently some water treatment plants are struggling and there are boil water alerts issued in several areas.  By mid next week we should be in the 70s.

Fossil fuel plants, despite being heavily subsidized, are losing the pure economic race to wind in texas.  The reason that they're building turbines now is that it's cheaper to put them up than it is to simply run last gen plants.  Not build them, just run them.  Additionally, that frees up fuel for export.

Your link is hilarious.

Quote:As a new study confirms, turbines would have to be stacked across state-sized swaths of the American landscape
That's exactly what texas is doing, because it makes economic sense.  53 billion and the return speaks for itself. Take it up with them.  : shrug :
