No, he said it may give the defense grounds for an appeal, he said nothing about the case being overturned (there’s going to be an appeal, regardless).
I agree, though, that Rep. Waters should have kept her yap shut.

one could be cynical and say beneficial change is more likely to result from the aftermath of a not guilty verdict than a guilty verdict.
those who really do not wish for the police to be held more accountable in their interaction with the black community has more to fear in the long run from a not guilty verdict than a guilty one.

I accept the correction.

What I'm reminded of is the case with Tommy Robinson. He managed to incite violence during TWO different trials involving Muslim groomers (one in Canterbury, one in Leeds) and almost caused both trials to collapse.
To be fair, Waters is far less strident than Tommy-boy and is only encouraging protesters to get more confrontational (something I suspect would have happened regardless of whether or not she actually suggested it). But still, the best way I can describe this is a spectacular lapse of judgment. And the fact that powerful people on my side of the political divide are doing shit like this legit makes me weep.

In her defense, she did clarify her statement.
Quote:"I am not worried that they're going to continue to distort what I say. This is who they are and this is how they act. And I'm not going to be bullied by them," she said.
She explained: "I talk about confronting the justice system, confronting the policing that's going on, I'm talking about speaking up. I'm talking about legislation. I'm talking about elected officials doing what needs to be done to control their budgets and to pass legislation."
Waters added that that backlash to what she said "does not deter me from speaking truth to power." "I am not intimidated," she said. "I am not afraid, and I do what needs to be done."

What was up with that judge talking about the comments of Maxine Waters in court?
He is the one that did not sequester the jury during the trial up until deliberation. But every day even without sequester, he instructed the jury not to watch the news. His comments seem to suggest a juror overheard inadvertantly her comments.

The defense brought it up as a potential problem. It’s the judge’s responsibility to discuss it. It’s a valid concern.

Ok, I missed the part where the defense brought her up.
