I know. But he deserves the max. If I understood correctly Chauvin chose the judge to sentance if he was convicted. He's going to do some extensive time in any case.

Judges are generally the ones who impose sentences in criminal trials anyway, within guidelines. Chauvin could still walk away with no time in prison at all.

And his maximum sentence would be 75 years, not 40.

The 40 was what the cable channels were reporting for the top charge.I was only repeating what I saw on the news. And there is absolutely no chance he will walk. That is a "technical" thing. Chauvin's lawyer will file an appeal as standard procedure. But to let him walk would be insane even if a "technical" possibility.

If he gets the maximum sentence on all charges, it would be 40 years if he's allowed to served concurrently. If he serves them consecutively, it would be 75.

So, he should still go to prison even if he wins his appeal? And appeals are not a 'technicality'.

"If convicted of the most serious charge, Chauvin faces 12 1/2 years or 150 months in prison under sentencing guidelines for a first-time offender. But, the prosecution argues there are aggravating factors that require a longer prison term. That means Chauvin may face longer than that sentence."

This was written before the verdict was reached but I have looked on several site and all say that the 40 sentence for the most serious charge would likely be reduced 12.5 years since Chauvin is a first time offender.

I expect his sentencing to cause more chaos than the verdict.

Those are going to be harder since the rest of them didn't have a knee on his neck. But they should be convicted of aiding Chauvin. If one of them had been like the bystanders, they could have forced Chauvin to back off. They didn't so they certianly deserved to be on trial.

True, but if he had been found not guilty, America would make the Watts riots look like a bonfire.

I did think Chauvin was very likely/ most probably one of the main causes of Floyd's death. I did see some room for doubt though. He didn't die of an overdose. He died of Hypoxia though and fentanyl can cause hypoxia.
