Supreme Court To Take Up Right to Carry Firearm Outside Home

RE: Supreme Court To Take Up Right to Carry Firearm Outside Home
This is a state issue, I hope the court pushes it back.

If they don't, I say let the court packing begin.

Personally - I see no merit in open carry.

I tend to think people are more polite when they DON' T know who is packing.

Edit to add

What do you base the statement - that those who carry are a greater risk? Are you including or excluding those who carry illegally?

Either/or. I base it on the assumption that I’m somewhat less likely to be shot by a person who doesn’t have a gun than by one who does.

Boru
So you assume...

Wrongly.

Do the research.

Here in Michigan - you are less likely to be shot by a LEGAL CCW holder than you are by law enforcement.

You are FAR more likely to be shot by someone who isn' t even legally allowed to own firearms and is carrying ILLEGALLY.

If you look at other states you will probably find the same thing .

The simple truth is - those folks that jump through the hoops to LEGALLY carry a concealed handgun just are not the problem....

Always bears repeating: the NRA supported gun control when it looked like black people might carry guns.

Wishful thinking.  The people who will jump through hoops to carry are the same people feeding the grey market pistol pipeline, which actually is The Problem™.

A sane country would legally treat gun ownership as a privilege and not a right, and institute rules and regulations on standards to be met by people wanting to earn that privilege. It'd be like getting a driving licence, only more stringent.

Law enforcement, legal or illegal ownership of guns is immaterial. Can you list for me the times when someone was shot by a person who didn't have a gun?

This should be fun.

Your title's a little off. The case is about the right to carry concealed weapons outside the home.

Boru

Open or concealed, I could give a shit less. Unless you have a job, say security guard, private investigator, armored guard, why the fuck do you need to parade your penis extention in public?

Boru

So your solution is to make all guns disappear.

....

Now THAT is realistic.

Nope, never said that, never implied that, don't believe that. There are good and sensible reasons why people own guns, and there are reasons that are less good and sensible.

Sometimes, people are going to be shot - it's unavoidable and not always a bad thing.

All I said was is that I'm more likely to get shot by someone who a gun than by someone without a gun. I don't understand why you're arguing this point, since it seems so basic. This isn't a condemnation of guns or gun ownership, it's a statement of fact.

Let me try it this way: I'm in a confrontation with Person A, who has a gun. I'm in another confrontation with Person B, who doesn't have a gun. While it's not especially likely that Person A is going to shoot me, it's utterly impossible for Person B to do so.
