Why don’t people working in the restaurant industry deserve a livable wage?

You think that somebody taking a hamburger, sticking into a bag and handing it to you is worth a "living wage"?
I applaud your empathy and concern for others but your understanding of economics leaves something to be desired.
Businesses need to make money to be viable. They can't do that if they pay the employees a wage higher than the worth of an employee's work.

If the employee's work is worth what they're being paid, restaurants should have no problem staying open while still offering the same wages.

Yes, I do. And you think that’s all they do? You think that’s an easy job? Why don’t you go do it? And why do you think that some people don’t deserve to be able to live off of the work that they do? If they’re working full time, and working hard at the job, why are they less deserving of meeting the basic needs of human life?

I worked in fast food before I graduated High School - and started for $1.35 an hour. That' s who is SUPPOSED to be working there - kids - learning job skills and earning some cash. The job skills needed to do the job are nearly nil. A warm body that moves on occasion. You can't expect to make a living doing something that takes 16 hours to learn.
The problem isn't that these jobs don't pay enough - the problem is that the people who are doing them should not be trying to make a living doing these jobs. They should have picked up job skills and moved on to something better paying than minimum wage.

I am so sick of this. All you are arguing is that a human life is only worth what the rich are willing to exploit.
NOBODY is trying to argue that a fry cook should make the same as a neuro surgeon. But that fry cook is equally important, so is the garbage collector. What livable wage advocates do argue, is that those in the middle and working class, if they can support themselves without having to struggle and make enough that makes more people independent, and that gets more people off of the government dime.
I'd argue if you can't pay your workers a livable wage, then you don't deserve to be in business.
The billionaires of the word are fucking crybabies. Jeff Bezos is worth some 180 billion, and claims that he will go into space. That is fucking narcissism. Meanwhile that fry cook, that garbage collector, whom are providing needed services, they have to work 2 or even 3 jobs and still cant meet the rent.
Supply and demand everyone gets, and profit margins too. I am so sick of the right thinking the left doesn't understand this. What the left disputes is how society should go about getting more economic stability and maintain a open market.
There SHOULD be pay differences and different classes. But there SHOULD NOT be poverty at all in the richest country on the face of the planet.

They should have picked up job skills and moved on to something better paying than minimum wage. Why shouldn’t someone be able to live off of full time work that only took them “16 hours” to learn? How is that relevant? If they show up on time every day and do the job that is required of them for 8-10 hours a day, 5-6 days a week, why don’t they deserve to be able to live off of the time they’re dedicating to their employer to do the work the employer needs them to do? How does job skill have anything to do with worthiness of the basic essentials of human life?
