Tl;dr: Culture-pessimism and ideas of cultural re-birth as a consequence? And thats why christianity fits neatly in (but is not at the core, it just matches well), because re-birth is baked in too?

The more i think about this the more i get depressed about humanity. I cant wait until its over, one way or another. If not, one day, someone more competent than Trump/MAGA will show up, someone with principles, who will follow up on them, mercilessly, no matter the casualties. Trump et al are fortunately only petty, greedy, incompetent, little cowards, but god have mercy on us all once somone "bigger" shows up. There seems to still be (like back in history) a baseline "mass" of people for whom there would and could be no limit.....frightening, real frightening. 

Christianity in my opinion is just window dressing, something to makes bigotry righteous. Core idea would be that things are bad now but thanks to following the fuhrer return to glorious past and rebirth of greatness is possible.

The baselessness is actually a part of it for maga.  They wouldn't follow a zealot.  In the us "christian" as an identifier is political and transactional.  It's not a matter of a sense of the numinous or a genuinely held belief in the salvific power of a personal and intervening god.  All of that societal rot they've been bitching about really did happen...it just happened to them, not the godless left.

Less than an hour after US President Donald Trump announced that Israel was “PROHIBITED” from attacking Lebanon under a 10-day ceasefire reached Friday, an Israeli drone strike reportedly killed at least one person in southern Lebanon.

Citing Lebanese media, The Times of Israel reported that an Israeli drone targeted a motorcycle between the southern towns of Khounine and Beit Yahoun. The Israel Defense Forces have not commented on the attack.

It was the latest in what the Lebanese Army said on Friday morning were “a number of violations” of the ceasefire within hours of it going into effect at midnight local time on Friday, as well as “intermittent shelling targeting a number of villages.”

Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta plans to lay off 10% of its workforce in a companywide bloodbath next month – with even more cuts to follow later in the year, according to a report Friday.

The Instagram parent will ax nearly 8,000 employees in the initial round set for May 20, Reuters reported. More layoffs are expected in the second half of the year, but Meta executives have yet to decide how extensive they will be or exactly when they will occur.

Meta’s plans could be adjusted based on the state of the company’s artificial intelligence capabilities, sources ominously told the outlet.

The bloodbath is unfolding as Zuckerberg shifts more resources toward the development of AI. Meta, which is scrambling to keep pace with rivals like Anthropic and OpenAI, has teed up $135 billion in capital spending this year alone.

Last month, Reuters reported that Meta was planning to cut more than 20% of its workforce this year, potentially affecting some 15,000 workers. That would be Meta’s most extensive job cuts since Zuckerberg slashed more than 20,000 jobs in late 2022 and early 2023 as part of its infamous “year of efficiency” push.
