RE: Noteworthy News
Anything can be a church in the U.S., with zero scrutiny.

If the IRS tried to reverse it, the Right would claim it was illegal political targeting (even though the "church" is 100% a political entity).

43 degrees is not beach weather. At 43 (109.4 f) degrees a lot of people are going to die.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

IMO, the FRC is a political advocacy and advertisement group while the SBC is the unifying and governing body that sets standards for a collection of churches voluntarily under the same creed.
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post

While churches are often 501c3, associations of churches often aren't - and they were explicitly set up that way so that they could avoid financial scrutiny while engaging in the political activities of the church with a modicum of legal cover.

I believe both the FRC and SBC are both 501c3 and have filed 990 forms. I think the only difference legally is the classification. FWIW, I don't think any association or organization that contributes to political campaigns not have some transparency to it's goals and financials.

Not to mention that you can politic all you want as a 501c4; no taxes on the charitable stuff, pay taxes on the political stuff.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

-but...ofc....for tax purposes...you claim that all the political stuff is somehow charitable.

To be completely honest - as a 501c3, with an addendumed c4, that operates with a full on for profit llc on the labor end...... the whole designation has turned into little more than a gimmick for legal cover and political messaging. A farm can operate as a research station under a granted mandate while hiring a private company to provide skilled and unskilled labor. Three layers of protection. People believe strange things about nominal charities......like, for example, that their goal is charity. Charity conceived of as the giving away of things.

Not so much - but it's defensively and administratively useful that people think so. The real issue with the frc is that it's a hate group, and it would be a hate group no matter what tax designation it feels is most beneficial to it's day to day operation at any given time.

Fox News is now saying gas prices are falling too fast and that is hurting mom and pop gas station owners.

Wow.  They do have some talented gymnasts over on that network.

I need to check and see if the natural gas prices are dropping too.  I got my renewal for my home contract for power and they want to *double* the rate/kwh relative to two years ago, blaming the natural gas spike.  I think I'll wait until the futures drop a little more and the rates normalize.  I expect an increase, but not that much.

You want to say that gas prices dropped because crude prices dropped.....but that's not actually how it works.....
