A man was shot and killed in Minneapolis on Saturday in an incident involving federal law enforcement, who said the man was armed.

The shooting comes weeks after a federal immigration enforcement officer shot and killed a woman, resident Renee Good, setting off widespread protests in the Twin Cities amid escalation tensions between federal and local officials.

The man in Saturday’s incident was shot several times in the chest before he was taken to the hospital, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara told NewsNation, The Hill’s cable news partner.

City officials also confirmed the shooting “in the area of 26th Street W and Nicollet Ave.,” according to the city’s official account on the social platform X.

“We are working to confirm additional details,” city officials said. “We ask the public to remain calm and avoid the immediate area.”

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said the man had a gun recovered by federal officers, according to NewsNation.
