Elon Musk Thinks the Texas Neo-Nazi Mass Shooting Is a "Psyop"

While Americans mourned the killing of 8 people in Allen, Texas over the weekend by a man who apparently held neo-Nazi beliefs—and processed the shock of seeing graphic images from the shooting surface on Twitter—billionaire site owner Elon Musk engaged with conspiracy theorists who called the tragedy a "psyop" and himself said it was “odd,” “very strange,” and that the story “gets weirder by the moment.”

Twitter owner Elon Musk replied to tweets that called the shooting a “psyop” and suggested it was planned by the CIA.

“This is a psyop and it’s not even good,” an account called The Redheaded Libertarian commented on a post by right-wing pundit Ian Miles Cheong saying that it was “suspect” because the shooter seemingly didn’t have a Twitter account. “This gets weirder by the moment,” Musk replied.

Another post by The Redheaded Libertarian cast doubt on the shooter’s neo-Nazi beliefs and referred to bellingcat’s Aric Toler—the independent researcher who identified Garcia’s online profile—as a “CIA operative.” Musk replied: “Very strange.”

In response to a tweet by an account called End Wokeness implying that the white supremacy motive is a concoction by—who knows?—Musk replied, “Odd.”

Just as the shooting itself is not an aberration but a very clear continuation of a terrible trend, Musk’s engagement with conspiracies and the far-right is on brand.

You don’t have to go far looking for examples. The day after the Texas shooting, Musk interacted with a post by right-wing pundit Charlie Kirk that said “America is being invaded.” Musk, replying to someone who disagreed, backed Kirk up. “It’s not a military invasion like Ukraine, but it’s also inaccurate to refer to everyone crossing the border as a refugee,” Musk tweeted.

Last year, Musk tweeted, and then deleted, a conspiracy theory that proposed the man who attacked Nancy Pelosi’s husband Paul Pelosi with a hammer was a man he met in a gay bar. Musk apologized for that.

When the world discovered Musk’s burner Twitter account—revealed when Musk shared a screenshot of his Twitter dashboard—it was found to have interacted with conspiracy theories on Twitter, including that the Democrats are laundering money through Ukraine.

These are just a few examples from a man who is by now well-known to have an affinity for the far-right, conspiracy theories

UFO Hunters Built an Open-Source AI System To Scan The Skies

frustrated with a lack of transparency and trust around official accounts of UFO phenomena, a team of developers has decided to take matters into their own hands with an open source citizen science project called Sky360, which aims to blanket the earth in affordable monitoring stations to watch the skies 24/7, and even plans to use AI and machine learning to spot anomalous behavior.

Citizen-led UFO research is not new. Organizations like MUFON, founded in 1969, have long investigated sightings, while amateur groups like the American Flying Saucer Investigating Committee of Columbus even ran statistical analysis on sightings in the 1960s (finding that most of them happened on Wednesdays). However, Sky360 believes that the level of interest and the technology have now both reached an inflection point, where citizen researchers can actually generate large-scale actionable data for analysis all on their own.

“There's distrust [about how governments managed UAP sightings] and that's why the idea of a citizen science formation, to take this into our own hands, and to create our own information about it [is necessary],” Sky360 co-chair Richard G Hopf told Motherboard.

The Sky360 stations consist of an AllSkyCam with a wide angle fish-eye lens and a pan-tilt-focus camera, with the fish-eye camera registering all movement. Underlying software performs an initial rough analysis of these events, and decides whether to activate other sensors—and if so, the pan-tilt-focus camera zooms in on the object, tracks it, and further analyzes it.

But they'll just "find" videos of blurry objects that will probably be no more than balloons and drones, and then they'll blame Biden for not believing it is aliens, and thus complete the full circle of insanity.

It isn't so much a conspiracy as it is just plain dumb and stupid: There's a new book out - 'Shakespeare Was A Woman And Other Heresies' - that attempts to breathe new life into the baseless notion that the Bard's plays and poems were authored by someone other than William Shakespeare, and that Shakepearean scholars and literary historians haven't given this view a fair hearing.

 I haven't read it (and I'm not going to) because this nonsense has been circulating for well over a century, and there really isn't any evidence for the idea. It's just a mishmash of silly supposition, runaway whatifisms, and class snobbery.

Something tells me that UFO people will be displeased with the outcome

NASA to host (and livestream) public meeting of its independent UAP/UFO research team on May 31, 2023.

UAP (i.e. UFOs) refers to occurrences in the sky that cannot be identified as known natural phenomena or aircraft using scientific methods. The primary goal of this public meeting is to hold final deliberations before the agency’s independent study team publishes a report this summer. The report will outline how to evaluate and study UAP/UFOs using data, technology, and the tools of science. This is a priority for NASA and will inform them on what data could be collected in the future to shed light on the nature and origin of UAP.
