The war itself was a goatfuck, and given that it was a conflict between a large army and guerrilla forces with a shitton of popular support, it probably couldn’t have been anything else for us unless we were willing to commit genocide.

Thing is, he wasn’t talking about the war in general. He was talking specifically about the evacuation. And, in fairness, evacuating over a hundred thousand people in a few weeks (the largest airlift in American military history) and getting them all out in time for the deadline, that does sound like something of a success to me, even if virtually everything else about the war was doomed from the start.

Indeed war is hell and the fact anyone got out of that killing field  is a thing we should all be happy about

Why didn't I hear about the civil and respectful manner the Taliban treated the deal of evacuation?

I mean they stopped the ISIS terrorists and Saudi/Trump agents from ruining Biden's retreat.
That's the real victory: showing the whole world who the "real terrorists" were.

The Taliban assisted in the retreat because they need to demonstrate that they can actually run things. This will lead to foreign investment, which will provide money, which will enable the Taliban to mount further terrorist operations.
