If Greta does nothing else, she has gotten the attention of the generations that will be most affected by climate change if nothing is done.

I'm certainly not going to say that she's too young to be knowledgeable about the topic.

 Yeah, I find Greta bit annoying, but that's probably due to her autism. I think there's a distinct difference between the personality and the message.

As far as I can tell, she's at least as informed as most adults I run across except climatologists.

I'm a child of the 60's. A baby boomer, hippies and civil rights. We were gonna change the world. Didn't we do a bag up job! People such as G W Bush and Donald J Trump are baby boomers.

In my teens, I thought Hippies were the shit. After having run across more than a few, I changed my mind. I eventually concluded that hippies were a bunch of privileged bourgeois white kids doing liberal arts on daddy's dime. They were really great at hanging out together, pontificating, getting shit faced and mispronouncing didactic.   A couple of the darlings I knew went to Vietnam demonstrations where they deliberately injured some police horses.***

In middle age I was kind of disappointed in the new generation. They seemed apathetic to me, not getting involved.  Then along comes Greta Thunberg who has the audacity to speak truth to power. I remain very impressed with her. She has chosen what in my opinion is the most important issue facing our species.  Too soon to tell how successful she will be. She's a long way short of a revolution, which is what she needs to make any real changes, imo.

I doubt they'd pay for what a person would do for free.  

Then again, they have been pumping out a steady stream of garbage about how green they're going.  In reality, something like 3% of their annual budget..most of it, hilariously, in the greenwashing pr campaign (.1% in actual tech or infrastructure).  To the point where their claims are so spurious theres an ftc complaint languishing over deceptive advertising.  Homeopathic remedies are generally okay under the rules..but the shit that oil companies have been pumping out isn't.  

Roll that around in your head for a bit.

If you're looking for a job, I don't think I could get you one with an oil company, but I absolutely could get you on working with the epa. We need help cleaning up our fossil fuel mess. Many hands, light work.

And Shatner never inspired anyone, never got anyone to look up at the stars and make them think " I want to go THERE..."????

I love star trek. But I think all the people who you know went out into space after months of intense training likely inspired more astronauts than William Shatner 

Why do you think she IS knowledgeable?

Oh, I don't know maybe because she admits that looking into climate change was what inspired her to start her advocacy and maybe all the world-renowned scientists she's met, And if you hear her speak on the topic she seems well versed as she needs to be.

Face it - 

He's an astronaut.

He's a celebrity who only got a spot on the rocket for PR reasons. Calling him an astronaut is an insult.

She is a boat person.

She's an advocate trying to wake people up to the greatest threat our species has ever faced.

Between Reagan, and the orange Turd, and Shatner, even if he did run for president, I doubt he'd come close to being as bad as the orange turd.
