I've almost gotten it down so that it doesn't leave bird shit everywhere. I love my oxyacetylene rig; I can make nice welds with it. I guess if I welded with the wire feed unit enough, I'd get good at it. I don't think that I'll live that long, given the number of welding tasks that I'll be likely to take on.
Ok.... I guess you meant MIG, not TIG......
Now - are you using flux core wire or mixed gas (C25)?
You're right-MIG. And it's flux core, which I believe is part of the problem as well.

Ok... If your machine has the option for gas feed - upgrade to it.
Flux core is essentially the same as stick welding - with the smoke... Plus you get splatter all over. That contributes to ugly welds. You get cleaner welds and breatheable air using gas feed.
Also - if your machine is gas capable - make sure your polarity is correct.
Flux core = negative to stinger.
Gas feed = negative to workpiece.
That got me once... Couldn't get a good weld at all...
I have MIG, TIG and gas. If you want the cleanest - go TIG.
It's a cheapo Harbor Freight welder. I'll have to check to see if I can upgrade it, but I have my doubts. I'm not going to invest in yet another piece of equipment that I will probably use 10 times in my life, so I'll probably just stick to the oxyacetylene rig.

The gas axe! (I needed a good gas mig (unimig) for welding car panels...) Stick is for general purpose stuff ... I'd love tig and plasma cutter but as Fireball said, not to use them 5 or 10 times max ...

Just in: due to travel restrictions, the US has been forced to restrict it's attempted coups to its home soil this year.
