You really love your pretzel logic don't you? No most people do not buy a weapon with attaching responsibility to it. I'd only agree people may go into it with the intent of being responsible, but if you had bothered to read my post, complacency doesn't give a shit about your intent. It only takes one spit second to fuck up, and there is no rewind button on a bullet. Again, if most people were responsible as you falsely want to believe, we would have the epidemic level no other comparative western wealthy nation peer has. None of our allies come close to our stupidity and slavish worship.

81 million Americans own 393 million firearms. In 2020, a little over 45 000 USians were killed by privately owned firearms (that number includes ALL gun deaths - murder, suicide, accident).

While 45 000 is far too many and a tragic number, if most people were as irresponsible as you claim, that number would be far, far higher. I mean, mind-wobblingly high.

Since the number of firearm deaths is such a tiny percentage of the number of people who own guns, the only reasonable conclusion that can be drawn is that the thundering majority of gun owners do - as OLB said - have a very real appreciation of the responsibility that comes with owning firearms.

Yeah, they're more likely to do so for the purpose of actually killing someone with it than pretending to do so. And yet you balk at any proposal that tries to keep guns out of the hands of people who actually want to cause harm.

I have never bought a gun with the intention of killing someone with it. Nor has anyone else I know.

-and yet... that's the number one reason for purchasing a firearm, according to people purchasing firearms. The thing that the entire industry, itself, has gone all in on. I guess they didn't have much choice, for their part. Not alot of hunters anymore.

Do you think it might be a problem when that's the reason that people are buying so many guns, when that's the thing that manufacturers are devoting the majority of their productive capacity and marketing dollar to? When the politicians of that very same gun buying demographic are actively campaigning on post apocalyptic hellscape america and the fear of the other?

Or is it just actors with guns that are dangerous idiots...who shouldn't be allowed near guns?

I on the other hand have over 50 years of gun ownership. 21 years of daily concealed carry. I have trained 100s of people in gun handling. 

I am not a badass. I am simply a guy who recognised the world can be and frequently is a dangerous place and prefer to do what I can to protect myself. This means being proficient and having the means to do so.

If a gun is in a locked safe it is irrelevant if it is loaded. It should however NOT have a round chambered. If there is a fire - you don' t want rounds cooking off in a chamber - endangering first responders. Revolvers should be unloaded.

Bullets cooking off in a fire make noise but are of little consequence.
