Anyone know anything about smoke detectors?

Um no. I moved to my current address in 07. My prior house fell into decay. I paid to have it torn down and have a brand new trailer replace the old home on the same property. That replacement took place in 18. This recent hiccup is new. I simply cannot understand why my smoke detector cant function properly.

But the hard wired concept isn't outdated. It may be ill designed, but not outdated. I simply can't understand why the designers cant make it easy for the user to figure out what the problem is.

If you beep one way, fine. If you beep another way fine. But unless you know the language of the beeps, you are out of the loop. I get the beeps are trying to tell me something. But I don't want it being more complicated than replacing the battery.

Since you’ve already replaced the battery and it didn’t help, it doesn’t much matter what you want. Just replace it.

Find the make/model of the detector then google the manufacturer guides and follow. This is not rocket science.

Hell, there's probably a youtube to tell you what to do.

Then why would a 55 year old man (me) have no record of violent crimes?

*spit take* I don't think it's the default of 55 year old men to have a record of violent crimes, so, the "why" for you not having one is a question with any number of answers. Are you asking why you haven't been caught in 55 years?

In my experience, it's because cops are dumb.  Not "can't change a smoke detector" dumb, but close.
