Smoke detectors just do these things; its part of life. You need to replace them at least every 7 years. If it lasts 5, don't worry about it; just replace it. They're like $20. I don't bother with the hard wired variety because the connector won't always fit the new model and the wiring has to be re-terminated anyway, so I just pop in a new battery powered model every 5 years or so. And date the damn thing on the outside cover so you can see when you replaced it. Also, I like to replace one every year so not all of them go bad at the same time.
BTW, you seem to have a lot of difficulty determining when something is "hot". You know you can buy a voltage tester at any hardware store for like $7. They're safe and simple to use. Perfect for the guy who doesn't know when he's turning off the correct breaker. Little hint: label your circuit panel or keep a drawing with notes. Link to voltage tester on Amazon
Why is it so?

#37 should hire an electrician for this issue. Else he could get electrocuted. Just saying.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.
Brian, the sensors in smoke detectors do degrade. I researched this myself about a year ago because I had the same issue. They do need to be replaced periodically. In fact, if you have a high-quality battery, the battery is likely to outlive your smoke detector.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

You have a malfunctioning smoke detector. Call someone to to check it - if it's repairable, get it repaired. If it's not, get it replaced before you die of smoke inhalation. Jeezus. Boru

I blame the smoke detector manufacturers.... They flood the market with their product.
In fact they give them away like candy! (November 4, 2021 at 12:22 am)Brian37 Wrote:(November 3, 2021 at 10:44 pm)AFTT47 Wrote: Brian, the sensors in smoke detectors do degrade. Just buy a new one and move on with your life. Were it batteries for your remote you'd have already made a trip to Walmart. |
