Another latin phrase the troll most probably does not care about

RE: Indoctrination
The things you say don’t appear to be true according to you Ahri.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

The higher power is of their own choosing, it's not some pre-fabricated archetypal god such as Jesus, Vishnu, Odin etc.

It puts them into a positive mindset. The higher power is probably a creation of their own imagination, a beneficent "higher self" that prompts them to make necessary changes to their lives.

I sometimes hear voices in my head, also.

Me, too. A small, still voice, as it has been called. I also talk to myself. I was at a carving class and one of the other members commented about it. I said, "I just like to have an intelligent conversation".  Hehe

Lately, my voices have centered around debt management programs.

I hear voices in my head. Where else would I hear them?

Also, true according to whom? You?

That's not the reason. But it is an indication that you don't care to find out.

You have demonstrated many times over, that you don't care.

So tell me this, what method do you use to determine true claims, grom false clams?

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

I agree that accepting a set of beliefs uncritically is bad, and indoctrination is bad, but what about if we are talking about a single belief instead of a set of beliefs? Surely there is at least one belief we must accept uncritically. An axiom.

Believers often, knowingly, lack evidence for God's existence. So a lack of evidence isn't exclusive to atheists.

Perhaps being unsatisfied with believing something despite a lack of evidence is.

(January 22, 2022 at 1:01 pm)Ahriman Wrote: Well there are different types of evidence. The evidence of a believer is faith-based evidence, meaning it's not empirical evidence, but still a valid form of evidence.

One of the things that tells us evidence of something is valid is whether it's persuasive to people who aren't already convinced of it.

If a person has psychic perceptions that can be tested and measured using scientific tools, I would consider that evidence for psychic perceptions. I'm not sure I could still consider that supernatural if science can detect and measure it.

Yeah that's not at all how that works.

Yah, it would only work like that if it actually worked.
