Ummm...can I borrow.........some money?

You know, I would loan it to you, if I knew you a little better, and if I knew that you were in need of such. But, there would come a limit where I would say, "Look, I have my own house & car payments, food, utilities, etc."

But, thanks for making my point!

If your point is that I am a smart ass.  You are correct!  I proved that point.

Right, and if that's the problem with war, any number of profit based or profit seeking strategies overcome that objection.

If we're allowing profitability metrics, then russia is fucking the pooch on both counts. One, in that it's engaging in a war (and in a way) that is unjustifiable - and two, in that there's no credible expectation of profit from this war if there once was..that moment has passed. They'd hoped to smash and grab a 7-11...but when they got there, the place was full of swat.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

I read this morning that Russia is spending almost $500 million a day for this war, which puts their running total thus far a little over one hundred billion dollars. In an economy with a GDP of less that $2 trillion, that's going to hurt at a certain point.

The rate of stockpile depletion is even worse than the dollar amount betrays. We're chewing through years of production, they're chewing through years of production. Crucially, they're chewing through years of production in items we're not expending at all and so will still be there should we need them, or should we decide to say fuck it, be heroes, and give ukr a load of cruise missiles, jets, and tanks. Money, you can make it and lose it. Time, you only lose that.

I think that's going to be the final calculus in this, where two near peer industrial bases (and that's being generous to russia) are paired off..but the second party only has a near peer army...with ukraine....also being generous.

And it will take a good amount of time for a Russian economy hobbled by sanctions to replace the stuff that got shot out of the tubes, shot up by enemy tubes, shot down by enemy SAMs, or surrendered to the UAF and the Tractor Brigades. I think Putin in that sense has mortgaged his nation's future status as a power unless they're willing to orbit China.

Which might explain why china isn't helping, and isn't trying to stop them..either. But hey, Putin..day 200 and some of his three day war - remains a strategic genius, eh?

Naturally. His genius is evidenced by how his brave troops are courageously advancing towards the rear, while being followed by all those terrified Ukrainians.
