Russia and Ukraine

Quote:KYIV, March 22 (Reuters) - A Ukrainian deputy prime minister said on Friday Russian oil refineries were legitimate targets for its forces, after a media report said the United States, a close ally, had asked Kyiv to stop conducting drone strikes on refineries.

Ukraine dramatically stepped up its attacks on Russian energy facilities this month, launching numerous long-range drones to strike Russia's biggest refineries, resulting in the temporary suspension of production at some of them.

"We understand the calls of the U.S. partners, but at the same time we are fighting with the capabilities, resources, and practices that we have," Olha Stefanishyna, the minister, told the Kyiv Security Forum.

She said energy facilities were legitimate targets from a military point of view.

The Financial Times cited people familiar with the matter saying Washington had urged Kyiv to halt strikes, warning of the risk of provoking retaliation and driving up global oil prices.

The attacks helped boost oil prices that have risen nearly 4% so far since March 12, when Ukraine hit a major oil refinery.

I wonder if these are the same collaborators who are holding up the next aid package we should be sending.

But the thing is, hitting Ruzzian oil facilities shouldn't be driving up oil prices, because that rise was factored in from the day the west started embargoing Ruzzian oil.

This is the same kind of bs that blamed the 2022 oil rises solely on the initial invasion despite the fact that oil prices were beginning to rise before that happened and the Sauds instigating a massive cut in the production of oil throughout OPEC.

Of COURSE refineries are legitimate military targets. This is an ‘everybody knows’ thing.

We Allies did exactly the same thing in WWII against Germany, albeit with far less-precise weapons. I've never read of anyone complaining then.

Now American pols get their dander up? Meh, fuck off.

Yup. If you only support Ukraine until it affects your petrol prices or your re-election chances, you don’t really support Ukraine.

Russians are getting smart too: They are copying Ukrainian drone warfare tactics + they are even getting their own Starlink terminals from somewhere.

France is giving 72 Caesar Howitzers + 80,000 shells that will go with them (1000 shells per howitzer; isn’t that a little low?)

The Czech Republic is buying and reselling nearly 1,000,000 shells to Ukraine (mostly from third world countries).

So the Artillery issue is getting solved.

But I am reading that the number of F-16’s that Ukraine is going to get this summer is between 20-40. With Russia’s increased usage of glider bombs (Bombs that are shot from aircrafts from as far as 30 miles from the target) hey need air-superiority. And that means 10 times more F-16’s in order to repel a country like Russia.

Why is there such a shortage of munition?

A U.S. Sniper in Ukraine is saying that “There is no need for vehicles or even tanks; the main need is rounds of artillery + munition”.

I know that the production of the first was greatly diminished in the Post-Cold War world of the 90’s and the 00’s. But how is a shortage of ordinary munition even possible?

The US Congress has a lot to do with it.

As Thump said, it’s not a shortage of munitions, it’s a shortage of congressional spines.
