Russia and Ukraine

How do you know what will or won't be accepted?
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

The russian navy no longer seems to be interested in crimea. Too dangerous for their smoldering rafts.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. That rather depends on whether both Zelenskyy and Putin are earnest. I don't think Putin is; agreeing to a ceasefire and abandoning his totalist aims will be seen as a defeat in domestic Russian eyes, especially after losing almost 1 million casualties. Putin will be ripe for an overthrow at that point -- and more importantly, he knows it.

He may make nods to negotiations, but his acceding to any compromise will be the end of his power.

Zelenskyy, too, will suffer greatly politically if he allows Russia to keep its ill-gotten gains. He also knows that it will not forestall further Russian aggression, but rather provide them time to rearm and reinvade.

It's amazing. You can predict the appearance of russian sympathizers like a flock of geese. Whenever russia blunders it's way into some advantageous position they caw about russian inevitability....and whenever russia subsequently blunders it's way into ruin, to make noises about not believing your lying fucking eyes.

RE: Russia and Ukraine
On July 15th of 2024, russias last patrol vessel in crimea left. They have all rebased elsewhere...where boats aren't constantly being promoted to reef or submarine by a country with no navy.

Whatever else happens in the war, however the war ends, ukraine will go down in the books as the singlemost effective (and surprising!) naval combatant the world has ever known. No one else in the full annals of military history has ever done such a thing. So.....pretty sure crimea is on the concessions board...whether russia likes it or not.

The question is; to what extent do the Russians realise how many have been slaughtered. State media seem to go extrodinary lengths to obfuscate that.
Every so often something leaks or someone puts 2 and 2 together and there's a flicker of protest but it gets silenced pretty quick.
