OK Bill to allow parents to sue teachers if they teach anything that opposes religion

My thoughts exactly. You can scarcely make a statement about reality that doesn't contradict some religion or another. Something tells me the authors of a bill had a specific religion in mind. If that's the case, then the bill is an endorsement of a certain religious establishment. tsk tsk...

They don't care. In fact, they intentionally hope to prop one religion up over the others. It's not as if they prop themselves up......

Yeah, like Ferrocyanide said, they do this get attention. There are constant attacks on the establishment clause which they know have no damn hope of getting anywhere. But it's a cheap vehicle to get themselves noticed by the religious right whom they wish to court as part of their base.

I just passed a law that states anyone within 25,000 mile/41,000 km from me that says anything opposing my views is subject to a $25,000,000 fine.

LOL. I guess I won't be able to hide in the Earth's core either.

My new favorite law is (I heard this on USA news 1 month ago. I am in Canada):
Some guy was driving at the speed limit on the highway (65 mph) so that he would not get a ticket. He was in the left lane.

"Sir, I am writing you a ticket for underspeeding."
"Why? I am obeying the rule. It says 65 mph max."
"Sir, you are going slower than traffic in the left lane and that's dangerous."
"Do you want me to use the right lane? They are also going over the speed limit."
"Sir, it doesn't matter which lane you use. You are underspeeding."
"But if I exceed 65 mph, you would give me a ticket for overspeeding."
"Sir, you are forcing people to bypass you using the right lane."

I imagine that is how the conversation went with the officer.
In court, that is the defense he used and he lost. Arrgghh

Oklahoma bill would fine teachers $10k for teaching anything that contradicts religion

As a teacher and as a parent this is absolutely horrifying. I'm glad I don't live in Oklahoma. If it ever comes to my area, I'll be moving a.s.a.p. This is extremely disturbing. Especially since, unlike with police, that $10k would come directly from teachers pockets. I can't imagine being a teacher in Oklahoma if this passes. I'd think all of them would just leave.

This is fucked up. There is a difference between questioning the logic of a claim, and human rights. Saying there is no such thing as a magic baby or zombie god is not the same as saying you want that person arrested or harmed. Laws like this are what they have in Saudi Arabia and Iran,

They never seem to notice that as they craft these bills and assert that schools from k on up teach things that contradict their faiths - they're making the case that the entire body of human knowledge...from k up...contradicts the articles they take on faith.

IF people agree with this, they need to ask themselves what other restrictions they agree with. Where does freedom end and "good education" begin?
