Do you believe bacon increases the risk of heart disease? If so, why? I think you do because it has a lot of saturated fat in it, and the fact that it has a lot of saturated fat is mechanistic evidence.

No. We believe it because we have
evidence that people who eat
foods high in saturated fat are at an increased risk for heart disease. And yes, we have a pretty good understanding of the mechanism behind this observed effect. Is there any evidence that
sesame seeds cause heart disease?
Just because a specific, isolated compound found in a food can cause an effect in the body, that doesn’t necessarily mean the food itself will have the same effect. This is called synergistic effect of food.
