I don't get how does God give someone meaning in life? Is it because they think they would kill themselves if they didn't believe that suicide is a sin? Or that the thought that God loves them gives them meaning in life? - but how? And if so, why does God have to love them to have meaning in life but love from another human(s) doesn't give them meaning in life?
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

I'll play Devil's advocate and agree there is no objective meaning in life without God. That has zero bearing on the existence of God - just because something is desirable does not make it true.

I got the typical canned answer about creating your own meaning, but I responded with this, "If there is no God, then there is no meaning" Meaning, all meaning is a delusional construct carried out by a narrative we tell ourselves why we do the things we do. Why would a meaning from a god be any more meaningful? It could easily be a delusional construct carried out by a narrative the god told itself. And why bother looking for an external meaning when it's trivially easy to have a personalized, internalized one? It's not as if there's anything special about meaning itself.

It's been an interesting time, too. I see that gods have become fully organic in our friends pantheon. I don;t know how serious the op title is, but a visitation or experience from an extraterrestrial being probably doesn't meet the god bar. I guess we could ask.
Does this experience come with a set of universal moral imperatives?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
Meaning is such an ambiguous word that it's difficult to know what someone really means when they say it.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

Can't say I blame anyone for thinking that.
