Well you can thank them from me Wink Though I don't drink the stuff any more, for the sake of my teeth, I used to pretty much live on it, so in a way I've probably helped pay your mortgage a bit too... you're welcome Wink

The funny thing is that I might drink one Pepsi a month.  Husband consumes a fair number of Mt. Dews as does son.  Now and then I get a craving for a fountain Pepsi (the only reason I go thru the drive thru at Taco Bell which is owned by Pepsi).

Yeah, I don't even have that much now... totally weaned off it. I never thought I'd see the day but now I drink water more than anything else, whereas in the past I'd drink a whole two litre bottle of Pepsi Max a day, pretty much, which is also a lot of caffeine... so I have none of that in my diet any more either, which I think is good... caffeine withdrawal headaches were not nice.

Pepsi, it seems, is a failure of the borgeois neoliberal moral scheme. Not only has pepsi failed to convince us to buy more pepsi, pepsi has failed to convince us that we should want to buy more pepsi. At best, pepsi has convinced us of the subjective value of pepsi - it's taste-to-some, or the practical utilitarian value of pepsi - a product that can generate economic outcomes. I remain utterly unconvinced by pepsi as a flavor or as a company, lol.

You know...one I think actually did work? The movie rating system. These are products advertised as appropriate, and forming the boundary of what is appropriate - neatly segregated into commercially valuable demographic groups.

Thank you for the information.
So, Jews are fortunate for not having rules to obey because even if there are some, they can disobey them as if these rules don't exist in the first place.
I bet Smile that soon Later, I will likely hear that Jesus whose message is about living the Unconditional Love towards all others (when he says: Love your enemies. Don't resist evil) also created the notion of a torturing hell.

I haven't noticed a particular difference between how devoutly Jews obey their laws and how devoutly Christians do, even in fear of hell. Weird, huh?

In the NT, Jesus talks about hell more than he does heaven, and talks about hell more than any other character in the Bible. But he doesn't present it in a way that sounds like he originated the idea. He doesn't have to explain the idea to anyone, they already know about hell.

I don't have to try to justify some deep meaning for cursing a fig tree out of season, I just toss it out with the rest of the chaff.

But what does that mean for ultimate meaning, justice and hope?  Or as an atheist, those are non-existent or purely subjective.  Meaning found in what you deem meaningul, justice may not be delivered if you are wronged and nothing to put hope in?

I assume you mean ultimate meaning, ultimate justice, and ultimate hope; but I don't know what you mean by those terms. Seems like you cold slap 'ultimate' on just about any idea to make it sound profound.

Meaning is inherently subjective, nothing has any inherent meaning, only meaning to someone. A particular rock might hold some meaning for me, but if it doesn't, it's just a rock.

Justice is when moral agents get what they deserve, no more or less. It's easily observable that justice doesn't happen except by accident unless we make it happen.

Hope is expectently desiring something to happen. I'm a hopeful guy, where did you get the idea that I have nothing to put hope in? For starters, I strongly hope I'm still around to read your reply.

There's a really interesting relationship to explore there, if you have that apprehension. If it does seem like jesus as written expected his audience to understand what hell was. This supported his apocalyptic ministry. The prophetic interpretation is that all of the references to gehenna were in kind to their ot antecedents and thus, jesus predicted the roman pits 40 years later after the destruction of the temple. The historic interpretation, is that whoever wrote this was familiar with the events of the 70's as history.

In neither case would the alleged audience of these tirades have understood them. In the prophetic interpretation..they didn't, and kept fucking up, and sure as shit the temple was destroyed and their broken bodies and living children were thrown in pits as rebels by a pagan army occupying their land. In the historical interpretation, nobody then got it because it wasn't a thing then. It was a later revision of the story to incorporate such facts as arose after 70ce.

In some places, the term hell is a translation of Gehenna. In others, it is the chosen translation for Tartarus or Hades.

All but one use of gehenna in the nt comes from the character of jesus, iirc.
